The Beatles - I Want To Hold Your Hand - Remastered 2009

When I was younger my Dad had The Beatles 1962-1966 on cassette tape in his car. Every track on side 1 holds a special place in my heart, but for some reason this was the one me and my sister would always ask to hear again and again.

A song from your favourite album? And what does this track mean to you?

Bright Eyes - At The Bottom Of Everything

This album means more to me than I can put into words. It's so beautifully heartbreaking, pessimistic yet hopeful. The stories behind each and every track are so fascinating, but this one is my favourite. Plus Conor Oberst's voice is just hauntingly good.

A song from your most memorable gig?

Father John Misty - Pure Comedy

Saw Father John Misty at Primavera Festival in Barcelona last year. It was a really great set and I was there with all my best mates, it was sunny and I was very drunk. The song just builds so nicely too and I can remember feeling so excited when all the brass kicked in.

A song that always gets you up and dancing?

The Housemartins - Happy Hour

Me and my mate always have a drunk little boogie to this. The original video on YouTube (which you can watch in glorious 240p) has the whole band just doing these weird dance moves and funny walking, it's part animated too... very strange and wonderful.

A new song you're listening to? Why do you like this artist?

Vampire Weekend - Big Blue

Vampire Weekend's new album is really nice. This song in particular is one I keep putting back on, peculiar production, yet so addictive.

Best song to turn up loud? And why?

Sports Team - M5

This song absolutely BANGS. It makes me feel so excited about everything and all summery. I messed up my throat so bad from singing (screaming) along to it when I saw them at the Electric Ballroom recently... an incredible gig.

A song that defines the teenage you? And the memories it evokes?

The Cribs - Be Safe

This is probably my favourite song of all time. It is, to me, such a perfect representation of finding hope, in even the deepest of depressions. Lee Ranaldo reciting this incredible poem. My favourite line - 'You scream so well, your smile so loud, it still rings in my ears.'

An anthemic song? Why does it get your pulse racing?

David Bowie - Five Years - 2012 Remastered Version

My top Bowie song for sure, and the one that made me cry the most upon hearing of his death. His vocal delivery of some of the lines is so raw and emotional, it feels like a call to arms. It's also my go-to karaoke song, have delivered many a drunk performance of this.

Best song to end an all-nighter?

Procol Harum - A Whiter Shade of Pale - Original Single Version

It was a toss up between this and 'Father & Son' by Cat Stevens. Both complete tear jerkers and phenomenal songs. The organ riff at the start and throughout hits me so deep, especially at the end of a long night under various influences.
