A KasperGiraffe Photo
Name, where are you from?
My name is Kasper, artist name 'KasperGiraffe'. Born and raised in Veneto, Italy / Oslo, Norway.
What do you do?
I'm a designer/creative. Making art. I primarily focus on making clothing but I really enjoy painting, photography and graphic design.
Describe your style in three words?
Bold, Messy, Fun.
Whatʼs the best gig youʼve ever been to?
Probably Pharrell Williams in 2014 or A$AP ROCKY in NYC last year. The energy when Rocky played A$AP forever in his hometown was spectacular!
If you could put any three bands in history on a lineup?
Nirvana, N*E*R*D and Cassius. Cassius opening up, N*E*R*D closing off their set with 'Run To The Sun', and Nirvana finishing things up with 'In Bloom'. I was never old enough to see Nirvana play live so that would’ve been super cool to experience.
Which subcultures have influenced you?
Skateboarding. I’ve been skateboarding my whole life and a lot of what I create/do is influenced by skateboarding culture in different ways. I feel like skateboarding values freedom and creativity which Is something I can get behind hard.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Tony Hawk! I would have a one-hour skate sesh with him, would’ve been a dream come true since I was a little kid. I grew up playing his video games religiously and still to this day use the 2000s videogame aesthetic in a lot of my work.
Where is your favourite independent venue?
Kadetten in Norway is beautiful. They have a festival every summer on the beach right by the water making the ambience there magical. Seeing Tyler, The Creator playing 'Garden Shed' while the sun was setting over the water in 2018 was something else.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Liv.e, Tyler, The Creator introduced me to her a while back and ever since I’ve been in love with her music. 'Powaline' slaps. Highly recommend checking her stuff out.
The first track you played on repeat?
'Frontin' by The Neptunes. Remember living in Italy hearing this from the backseat all day when I was a kiddo, been in rotation ever since.
A song that defines the teenage you?
'Celebration' by Kanye West. Great song to play when you got out of school early.
One record you would keep forever?
'On & On' by Erykah Badu. Such a relaxing melody with the most beautiful and addictive hook.
A song lyric that has inspired you?
'I’m Going Down' by Mary J. Blige. Inspires me to get myself together and go do something with my day.
A song you wished you had written?
'Changes' by A$AP Rocky. I love the way he describes constantly evolving fast, and changes in both himself and the people around him through this slow, warped and tweaked melody. the lyrics flow so well together with the melody throughout the whole song hence the track having so many tempo changes. He should be really proud of this track.
Best song to turn up loud?
'Strung Out Over You' by Mavis Staples and William Bell. This song is soo beautiful, heavy as well. When they both sing together towards the end of the track their voices complement one another perfectly and it always sounds so good when turned to the max.
A song people wouldnʼt expect you to like?
'Mayonaise' by The Smashing Pumpkins.
A song to get you straight on the dance floor?
'Club 73' by Cassius. Groovy.
Best song to end an all-nighter?
'Dumb' by Nirvana. Love this track.
Any new bands youʼre into at the moment?
Not a band, but I’ve been listening to Slowthai a lot lately. I'm hyped for his new album, really enjoyed 'Feel Away'.
