Describe your style in three words?
Mod/Smart/Casual.
The first track you played on repeat? And where did you play it?
Jimi Hendrix - Are You Experienced?
I fell in love with the experimental 'forward' and 'reverse' psychedelic, hypnotic Blues and Rock infused guitars. That combined with the poetic lyrics, driving bass and powerful drums got me hooked on Jimi Hendrix at an early age. Thanks to my Dad.
A song from your favourite album? And what does this track mean to you?
Them Crooked Vultures - Elephants
Them Crooked Vultures were one of my own discoveries as a late teenager at college. The fact the band is made up of the best of the best, such an incredible lineup of musicians. I just love the energy of this song. Driving guitar's, powerful drums and great vocals.
A song from your most memorable gig?
Primal Scream - Loaded - Andy Weatherall Mix
Benicassim Festival in Spain 2011. Primal Scream performing the entirety of 'Screamadelica' under a full moon around midnight with clear skies. A few drinks, friends and an incredible performance from the band made for a special evening. This song is a dance-y anthem.
A song that always gets you up and dancing?
Jamiroquai - Canned Heat
When I've had a few too many drinks... And 'Canned Heat' comes on there's no stopping me. It's all about the rhythm and hooks. End of.
A new song you're listening to? Why do you like this artist?
Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds - This Is The Place
I am really enjoying how Noel is taking in new direction in his music and songwriting. I find it really interesting how he isn't just writing Oasis style songs, because he's already done that. 'This Is The Place' feels like a modern take on late 1980's Madchester vibe.
Best song to turn up loud? And why?
Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody - 2011 Mix
Anywhere!? Everywhere? A party. I mean surely the greatest song of all time... When Bohemian Rhapsody comes on at a party, it always gets turned up. Everyone knows the words. It's an anthem, it can't be denied.
A song that defines the teenage you? And the memories it evokes?
Arctic Monkeys - Fluorescent Adolescent
A good time for British guitar music, which was a breath of fresh air compared to everything else that was in the charts during my youth. Quirky lyrics capturing youth culture backed with clever rhythmic, jangly guitars and dance-y drum beats got the teenage juices flowing...
An anthemic song? Why does it get your pulse racing?
The Verve - Bitter Sweet Symphony
I can't quite put my finger on why this song is anthem, however there is something special about 'Bitter Sweet Symphony' Maybe it's the simpleness and repetitiveness of the song? Maybe it's the Northern accent? Or there's something in the lyrics that connect.
Best song to end an all-nighter?
The Everly Brothers - All I Have to Do Is Dream
The slow tempo and creamy brotherly harmonies by The Everly's. Great lyrics that feel like a fantasy or a dream.
