Name, where are you from?
Devon, I am from the FOD! aka Forest of Dean (Simon Pegg, Hot Fuzz land).

Describe your style in three words?
Your Favourite Grandad.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Best gig I have ever been to was probably my first ever gig I went as well. It was to watch the Wombats headline O2 Academy Bristol in like 2013/14.

If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
Guns and Roses and The Doors. Not going to lie I don't listen to much older music but these are the two I used to listen to most when I was a kid and it would be cool to just watch them let alone play on the same bill.

Which Subcultures have influenced you?
I would say Mods for sure. Then probably bits of skater, and lately some old grunge scene vibes are creeping back into the wardrobe. I just love the smart/old man style vibes that some of these subcultures have and I love blending them with modern streetwear as well.

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
It would be John Lennon. I just think he’s so interesting and is probably the best songwriter to date. I would like to talk to him about life because he seems like he could give me some good advice.

Of all the venues you’ve been to, which is your favourite?
I haven't actually been to loads but would have to say that O2 Institute Birmingham is up there because it was just so big but looked so pretty with all the intricate details that are painted around it.

Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
My unsung hero is Tarek Musa because as well as Spring King he’s also worked with so many bands behind the scenes now and he is behind so many up and coming acts like Circa Waves, The Big Moon, Gengahr, Avalanche Party and Kagoule.

Devon considers his upbringing in the Forest of Dean to have had a big impact on his music, initially sparking inspiration through a lack of other distractions, and necessitating a DIY ethos which still runs through his approach to writing, recording and performing. Devon released his first single ‘Weirdo’ in late 2017 and his latest single 'I DON'T WANT 2 B UR FRIEND' is out now.

04Playlist Notes

The first track you played on repeat?
Paramore - 'crushcrushcrush'
Hah. Used to sit at the family computer and watch this video on repeat.

A song that defines the teenage you?
Dido - 'White Flag'
Mum used to play that tune all the time on the way to primary school.

One record you would keep forever?
Frank Ocean - 'Forest Gump'
Reminds me of driving to my old part-time job in a jewellery store every morning, it was the soundtrack of that year for me. Go to work...get shouted at...go home.

A song lyric that has inspired you?
Elvis Presley -  'Can’t Help Falling In Love'
“Wise men say only fools rush in” I love that tune and have always been a bit of an Elvis fan growing up. I used to dress up as him and put on shows for my family.

A song you wished you had written?
The Beatles - 'Black Bird'
I think this is one of the most beautiful songs ever written.

Best song to turn up loud?
The Neighbourhood - 'R.I.P. 2 My Youth'
I love this tune and the drums are unreal when they kick in.

A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
Frank Ocean ft. Calvin Harris - 'Slide'
This is a new tune that was such a grower on me. I first heard it whilst out shopping with my girlfriend.

The song to get you straight on the dance floor?
Earth, Wind & Fire - 'September'
This is just such an amazingly produced pop song.

Best song to end an all-nighter?
Ben Howard - 'I Forget Where We Were'
I used to listen to Ben Howard with all my mates after we had been out to house parties, or before we all fell asleep on a living room floor, or in someone’s bath or something! I also used to listen to him loads in my year 11 summer so gives me mad nostalgia.

Any new bands you are into at the moment?
Inhaler - 'Ice Cream Sundae'
This is a tune that I’ve had on repeat lately, it’s such a banger. These guys are really starting to pop now.
