A Rosa Kammermeier Photo
Name, where are you from?
Rosa Kammermeier aka Rosa Red, from Munich.
What do you do?
I’m an illustrator and graphic designer, I also DJ and make music.
Describe your style in three words?
Good fun classics.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Too many good ones!
If you could be on the line up with any two DJs in history?
Eris Drew and Octo Octa. Their taste in music is so so good, and these skills on mixing vinyl, so sick! Would love to learn something from them.
Which subcultures have influenced you?
Shoegaze and Postpunk have influenced me a lot. In my teenage years, I listened non stop to the Smiths and Joy Division (the melancholy of being a teenager in a small village in Bavaria) When I moved to Augsburg, I started to play Bass in a Shoegaze Band in Munich and my bandmates took me to really good concerts and shoegaze parties and really introduced me to a whole new world. This music still has a big place in my heart and I still like spherey, dreamy sounds. Later on, I started digging in the records I got from my father and was really turned on the bass and the beats in psychedelic music, and started djing on psychedelic funk parties in Munich, funky rhythms are what I liked back then and also now.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
I would like to meet Grace Jones. A goddess! I would be very intimidated but happy.
Of all the independent venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
Milla in Munich is always a pleasure. Great staff and best atmosphere :)
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Kate Bush was a pioneer in electronic music – even if she did not really make "electronic" music. She arranged and composed her songs by using synths and drum machines, at that time in a new way. Besides that, 'Hounds of Love' is an amazing album.
The first track you played on repeat?
'I'm Waiting For The Man' by The Velvet Underground.
A song that defines the teenage you?
'How Soon Is Now? - 2011 Remaster' by The Smiths.
One record you would keep forever?
'Let’s Dream Together' by The New Age Orchestra.
A song lyric that has inspired you?
'When Am I Going to Make a Living' by Sade.
A song you wished you had written?
'The Groove' by Paul Johnson.
Best song to turn up loud?
'Don’t You Want My Love' by Moodymann.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'Crazy' by Patsy Cline.
The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
'40 Miles' by Congress.
Best song to end an all-nighter?
'In My Arms' by Discosure.
Any new bands you are into at the moment?
Keep an eye on Grotto Terrazza!
