A Alexander Denning Photo
Name, where are you from?
Alexander Denning from Surrey.
Describe your style in three words?
Tertiary, Utilitarian, Cozy.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
For me, it has to be Jay-Z & Kanye’s Watch The Throne Tour at the O2, the energy throughout the whole gig was crazy from start to finish. Energy is always a big thing for me at the gigs I go to and this definitely didn’t disappoint! I also just remember Kanye appearing atop this massive red glowing dome as the intro to 'Runaway' started and the crowd completely losing it, haha.
If you could collaborate with any artist in history?
Spike Jonze without a doubt for me, he was my first big idol when getting into film and his journey from music videos to features has been so personally inspiring. He’s never been a director who is put into a box in what he can create which shows from his diverse catalogue of films but always manages to showcase his work in such a unique way which always hits deep in such a personal way.
Which Subcultures have influenced you?
I would say growing up outside of London I was more of a product of my environment and my experiences rooted into where I grew up, it’s really hard to narrow down a specific subculture which I feel naturally drawn to. If I’m being honest it would be that I never really felt like one single culture inspired me or that I felt I belonged to, it was more of an amalgamation of interests and life experience that helped to form who I was growing up and I would float in between those and whatever the next thing that interested me came along I would just dive in.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Prince is undefeated in my eyes, everything about him I am in awe with. I definitely feel like I’d need more than an hour with him though. I think film-wise I’d love to spend an hour with Sean Price Williams and get him to impart as much cinematography wisdom he has onto me!
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
It would have to be Donnie & Joe Emerson for me, I just really connect with their music, they’re incredibly talented and want everyone to listen to them!
