A CVC Photo
Name, where are you from?
We're CVC: hailing from Church Village in South Wales & comprised of 6 band members;
Francesco Orsi (Vocals); David Bassey (Vocals/Guitar); Elliot Bradfield (Vocals/Guitar); Ben Thorne (Bass); Tom Fry (Drums) and Daniel ‘Nanial’ Jones (Keyboard/Percussion).
Describe your style (dress sense) in three words?
FUNKY, LAVISH AND EXUBERANT!
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to (and why)?
There's a festival that's very close to home for all of us which is the Green Man festival in Brecon. It was actually Francesco's first festival and it was an amazing experience. A lot of it was a blur, for obvious reasons, but one part sticks out - which was watching the Lemon Twigs. They brought an insane amount of energy to the stage and some crazy musicianship that was hard to get your head around - accompanied with some quality clothing which has made a lot of the band think hard about the outfits we wear on stage!
If you could be on the line up with any two bands/artists in history - who would it be and why? (please nominate a track for each)
Earth Wind and Fire - for the groove, the outfits, and the stage size!
Jackson 5 - For the pure level of class they brought to the scene in the late 60's/ early 70's.
Which subcultures have influenced you (and why)?
When you look at us as a group, you immediately think "bunch of f****g hippies"! As a group we've listened to a lot of music from the 70’s and 80’s, which has influenced our style and a lot of our music.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history - who would it be and why?
Jesus, just purely to see if he’s real, or not....
Of all the venues you’ve been to or played, which is your favourite (and why)?
We played a great gig in PRYZM in Kingston and that place was fire! Trippy interior and that familiar smell of beer ingrained into carpet, which is always nice! Also a great Green room with free beers on ice.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music (and why)?
(please nominate a track - if a musician)
Jim Croce - because he died before he had his time to be a 'sung hero'.
The first track you played on repeat?
Talking Heads- 'Girlfriend Is Better'
Couldn’t get over the tone of the synth, or is it a computer? Literally still have no idea - ha-ha! - but it sounds awesome and unique.
A song that defines the teenage you?
CVC's teenage years consisted of sitting in the sun, practicing kick flips all day long and blasting west coast RAP. So if we had to pick one track, let's go with
One record you would keep forever?
It's very hard just to choose just one, but if you're putting us on the spot we'd have to say The White Album by The Beatles. That album is undeniably the greatest of the Beatles catalog, with songs like Rocky Racoon - all the way through to Helter Skelter, the album oozes top quality song writing and straight banger after banger!
A song lyric that has inspired you?
Cornerstone - Arctic Monkeys
The storytelling is like something from an urban Romeo & Juliet.
This Old Heart Of Mine by The Isley Brothers - because it's the perfect song, in every way.
Best song to turn up loud?
'Earth Song' - Michael Jackson. Dave went through a phase of bringing us into his flat and blasting this as loud as his speakers would go - and the bit where the drums kick in would rattle the plates in the kitchen so much, it resulted in a written noise complaint from the neighbours!
It was worth it though.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'Papa can you hear me?' - NDubz
Best song to end an all-nighter on?
Pink Floyd - 'Dark side of the moon' - in its entirety!
Any new bands/artists you are listening to right now?(pick a track for each)
Molchat Doma, Fur, The Rotanas, Katy J Pearson
