03Interview

Name, where are you from?
Leggy, I'm from, according to the BBC, The UK's least musical town 'Redditch'.

What do you do?
I'm a model and a musician; I play in a band called The Rotanas.

Describe your style in three words?
Bold and fluid.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Probably Fontaines @ the great hall in Cardiff. Mind-blowing stuff, the band of our generation for sure; I'll nominate 'Chequeless Reckless' because I'm skint and unhinged.

If you could put any three bands in history on a lineup?

I'd have the Verve headline (circa 97 a good mix of storm in heaven & urban hymns) - Nominate the tune  Gravity Grave, the extended version

An hour-long support slot from The Brian Jonestown Massacre, I'll nominate the track super-sonic.

I have an image in my head of seeing Bob Marley and the wailers in the early evening, watching the sun set through a clear sky, some utopian vision of a spiritually satisfying musical experience, so I guess it only seems right to have them on the bill. I'll nominate the tune One love, for obvious reasons.

Which subcultures have influenced you?
I've never really felt myself align with any particular subculture, feel like I've always picked and chosen different bits. The hippies and the rude boys are the two that come straight to mind as a good combination of peace, love and smart clobber. I think football/pub culture plays a part in how I dress, I love the pub, but I don't really like football, though.

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Hunter S. Thompson would definitely need more than an hour. Mind you an hour with him would be the wildest hour you'd ever had, I'm sure.

Where is your favourite independent venue?
I think Jimmy's, the original in Manchester was great, RIP, the Jimmy's in Liverpool is pretty special. Played to about ten people in there on a Monday night once, sound was incredible, lights were incredible, mushrooms are great.

Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?

She's not really unsung, but I feel she doesn't get talked about enough. Grace Slick from Jefferson Airplane, such a great voice.

Somebody to love - Jefferson Airplane

04Playlist Notes

The first track you played on repeat?
Christ knows, my mum used to get me to sleep to 'Angels' by Robbie Williams when I was a baby, so if that counts, I'll say that.

A song that defines the teenage you?
'Down In A Hole' by Alice in Chains.

One record you would keep forever?
'Storm In Heaven' by The Verve.

A song lyric that has inspired you?
"Well the rain exploded with a mighty crash as it fell into the sun

From 'Band On The Run' by Wings. That's f*cking beautiful that.

A song you wished you had written
Wild Life - Wings, that entire song is excellent, some of Mccartney's best IMO.

Best song to turn up loud?
'This Is A Low' by Blur.

A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'Vienna' by Ultravox. I never really clicked with the '80s, but this is a tune.

A song to get you straight on the dance floor
'Girls & Boys' by Blur.

Best song to end an all-nighter?
Groovin' - the young rascals, cause a proper all nighter finishes on a Sunday afternoon.

Any new bands you’re into at the moment?
CVC, get real.
