A Pet Grotesque Photo
Name, where are you from?
Calum. Ilkley, West Yorkshire.
Describe your style in three words?
Comfy is cool.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to (and why)?
Xiu Xiu/Former Ghosts @ Brudenell Social Club 31/10/10 - just had a powerful effect.
If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history (and why)?
Red Hot Chilli Peppers, then me, then Erik Satie to close the night.
RHCP = the 1st band I ever loved.
Me = me (the crowd can go to the toilet during this section).
Erik Satie = some more beautiful music, different flavour (but not completely) from the Chili Peppers.
The full rainbow of music.
Which Subcultures have influenced you?
2011 Tumblr, Fantasy Football Youtube Channels, ‘The Most Disturbing Movies’ thread in the Non-Music section of Ultimate-Guitar/Forums.com and 14 Sevenoaks Road.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
I have never ever thought about this before in my life. I would like to have Jiro from the 'Jiro Dreams of Sushi' documentary let me do an all-you-can-eat hour at his sushi restaurant. Just me by myself, him giving me the tastiest food in the world, at no personal expense.
Of all the venues you’ve been to, which is your favourite?
Glastonbury.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Eliane Radigue, synth genius lady who made one of my all-time fave bits of music - Kyema. And James Jamerson (who recorded the bassline for 'What’s Going On' by Marvin Gaye wasted, on his back with one finger.
The first track you played on repeat?
'Evergreen' by Will Young. In order to memorise the lyrics.
A song that defines the teenage you?
'Loser' by Beck.
One record you would keep forever?
'Light Upon The Lake' by Whitney.
We shall never part!
A song lyric that has inspired you?
“You’re so baby…”
From 'Baby' by Donnie & Joe Emerson. Simplicity… mystery…
A song you wished you had written?
'Yesterday' by The Beatles.
Best song to turn up loud?
'Dopesmoker' by Sleep.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'Wriggle Like A F*****g Eel' by Whitehouse.
'Louange à l'Éternité de Jésus' by Olivier Messiaen.
The song to get you straight on the dance floor?
'Like A Virgin' by Madonna.
Best song to end an all-nighter?
'Last Train’s Come And Gone' by Cindy Lee.
Any new bands you are into at the moment?
I would like to give a shout out to the following talented pals:
'Forever' by Night Tapes.
'Milky Woe' by Vanity Fairy.
'Blind' by Uncle Tesco.
'Acid' by Jockstrap.
