03Interview

Describe your style in three words?

Obscure, Dark & Quirky.

The first track you played on repeat? And where did you play it?

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Dark Necessities

When music was a lifeline for me, this came out and it really stood out because the slapping bass and fusion with the piano were something I hadn't heard and it kept bringing me back to it. That and this was so left wing for Chilli’s!

A song from your favourite album? And what does this track mean to you?

Wolf Alice - Formidable Cool

The more I listened to them, the more I fell in love with their music. This is my fave album because of how diverse it is; you can have soft and subtle to full on thrash. Anyone who knows me, knows that reflects my music taste perfectly!

A song from your most memorable gig?

The Smiths - William, It Was Really Nothing - 2011 Remaster

Watched the UK’s best tribute act, The Smyths. Me and mates went to Manchester and I lived out all my eighties dreams; we had our Dr Martens on (obvs I had my Fred Perry dress on) and we got on the barrier. I sang this and embraced my friends lovingly as the last note rang out.

A song that always gets you up and dancing?

Dobie Gray - Out on the Floor

I remember as a kid going to parties where this would always be requested and it was a mandatory audience participation moment for the Rothwell’s! This comes on now and it makes me feel so happy; me, mum and dad giving it our best talc dancing!

A new song you're listening to? Why do you like this artist?

Cate le Bon - Home to You

I like my music like I like my clothes; individual and quirky. The sound and atmosphere this song creates is bliss. Her voice is mesmerising.

Best song to turn up loud? And why?

Shame - Concrete

Where do I not listen to it?! Headphones, in the car, on my tv, everywhere I can! You can hear the energy build through the track and I think that’s what really appeals to me. Seeing this live earlier this year was revelatory!

A song that defines the teenage you? And the memories it evokes?

Little Comets - One Night In October

Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights getting ready to go to The Garrett and then over the road to 5th Ave in Manchester. We always requested this on the jukebox while we were nailing the Jägerbombs whilst they were on offer!

An anthemic song? Why does it get your pulse racing?

David Bowie - China Girl - 2002 Remaster

No matter your music taste, you’ve heard this track and I defy ANYONE not to have the urge to shake some part of their body and groove!

Best song to end an all-nighter?

Arctic Monkeys - One For The Road

Literally every time it’s getting to the close of the night, without fail my friends say “one for the road?!” Oooo oooo! It was an easy choice lads.
