Name, where are you from?
I’m Chaney (Theo Altieri) and I’m from Swindon (southwest UK).
What do you do?
I am an artist/producer and make music for the people!
Describe your style in three words?
Understated and classic!
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
I’ve been to so see so many gigs, not taking into account all the festivals and clubs too - but a stand out gig (on both occasions) was Charles Bradley at Colston Hall. He’s one of my favourite soul singers and I don’t think I’ve ever seen somebody who performs with that much belief before.
If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
I’d probably pick Primal Scream and Moby. For me to be on the line up somewhere before or after, would be a dream. Both artists have had a huge impact on the way I make music, it would feel 100% right.
Which subcultures have influenced you?
Growing up in the naughties and playing in bands - the indie scene was a huge part of my life and influencing me. I was brought up in a fairly musical home, my parents loved Paul Weller so the mod/soul scene was something I became really obsessed with as a young lad. As the years have gone by my musical taste has really grown and discovering house music really changed things for me. It wasn’t totally new because I’d already listened to disco and soul so there was something familiar already there.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
I’d love to spend an hour with Teddy Pendergrass, that would be majorly cool. Jimi Hendrix. I spent a lot of time idolising him as a 7-year-old and would like to think meeting him wouldn’t disappoint.
Of all the independent venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
I always loved the Thekla in Bristol. A venue being a boat is always a good concept - but I really have nothing but great memories of the place (played here many times and visited).
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Mike Skinner (The Streets) - Original Pirate Material sits in my top 10 favourite albums very easily. I was quite young when I go into them and heard them for the first time so the lyrical content and genius behind the music only began to make real sense as I grew older and could properly relate to Mike’s music.

The first track you played on repeat?
'I Shot The Sheriff' by The Wailers. One of my earliest memories of music is probably hearing Bob Marley - 'I Shot The Sheriff' in my parents' car. I guess that was the first time I heard a piece of music and it made me feel something.
A song that defines the teenage you?
'Electric Feel' by MGMT. This is a really difficult question for me because I listened to a massive variety of musical genres, especially during my teenage years. But this record (along with many others) transports me back to my early teenage years as if it was yesterday.
One record you would keep forever?
'What You Need' by Soft House Company. One of my favourite house records of all time!
A song lyric that has inspired you?
'Once In A Lifetime' by Talking Heads. This record spoke to me in many ways - I never really understood exactly what it’s all about but I relate to the lyrics in every way possible. I got “Into The Blue Again” tattooed on me!
A song you wished you had written?
'I Feel Love' by Donna Summer. Imagine writing a song that ahead of its time.
Best song to turn up loud?
'Energy Flash' by Joey Beltram.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'Big House' by Hak Baker. Love this guy, maybe a tune you wouldn’t expect to find in my playlist.
The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
'Keep The Fire Burning' by Gwen McCrae.
Best song to end an all-nighter?
'Poing!' by Rotterdam Termination Source. If you’ve just returned from a big night out, it’s a bright and sunny morning - put this on, loud.
Any new bands you are into at the moment?
Warmduscher - I’m a big fan of Paranoid London, and the line up consists of members from PL and also Fat White Family. For me that’s a winner already.
