What is your name?
I’m David Gedge, from Cinerama and The Wedding Present.
Where are you from?
Leeds
What do you do?
I spend much of my time singing songs about heartbreak and ecstasy and everything in-between while accompanying myself by battering an electric guitar to pieces.
Describe your style in three words?
Fast. Loud. Quiet.
How should your music be listened to?
At a concert. Most people say that The Wedding Present makes more sense when experienced live. The records tend to be attempts at capturing the band’s live sound, anyway...
What do you miss about home when you’re on tour?
Familiarity, I suppose. I know where my stuff is, what the wifi code is, where to buy food. Everything you do gets a little more difficult when you’re on tour.
What British music icons inspire your sound today?
The Johns - Peel, Barry and Lennon.
Formed in Leeds, 1985 and led by David Gedge, The Wedding Present are one of the UK's longest standing Indie bands. Considered as one of John Peel's favourite bands, they released their 9th studio album 'Going, Going...' in 2016 and will tour the 30th anniversary of their debut album 'George Best' around the UK in 2017.

'Damp Face' by La Luz
They combine The Ventures style surf with the sound of a 60s girl band. Sign me up!
'Jela' by Cold Pumas
We played with Cold Pumas at a festival in France and I was really impressed with the tension to be found within their repetitive song structures.
'Lo Siento Mucho' by Linda Guilala
This band supported us recently in Spain and blew me away with their wall of sound.
'You’re So Cool' by Colleen Green
A punky pop song with a late 1970s New Wave feel to it. I went to see Colleen play a few weeks ago and invited her to be the tour support on our 2017 tour of North America.
