A Gender Roles Photo
Name, where are you from?
Gender Roles. Tom (Northampton), Jared (Jersey) and Jordan (Warrington).
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Tough question. Either Ghost Of A Thousand in Brighton 2012 or Touche Amore every single time we’ve seen them. Both amazing bands with so much energy!
If you could be on the line up with any two bands or artists in history?
The Distillers and Queens Of The Stone Age.
Which Subcultures have influenced you?
I would say mainly the 2000s greebo days of nu metal, big jeans and chains. Although I was a sucker for the whole ‘MySpace' era with very over the top scene kid hair.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Probably quite a boring answer but would be George Martin and talk about Abbey Road Studio days!
Of all the venues you’ve been to, which is your favourite?
It would have to be Sticky Mike's Frog Bar in Brighton (rip) because it's where we really started out and cut our teeth. A lot of great memories from that place surrounded by friends and seeing a lot of great local bands play. Also, V11 in Rotterdam 'cause it's a sick boat!
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Really tough one. It's hard to not mention a million people but going with instincts I would say Justine Jones. Absolutely amazing vocalist in Employed To Serve and Glorious. Also killing it as co-founder at Church Road Records putting out some great music!
Gender Roles will be touring Europe throughout November and December 2021 before heading out on a North America tour in April 2022. For more information visit linktr.ee/Genderrolesuk.
The first track you played on repeat?
'Breathe' by Blu Cantrel (ft. Sean Paul).
A song that defines the teenage you?
'Chelsea Smile' by Bring Me The Horizon.
One record you would keep forever?
'Sloom' by The New Tusk.
A song lyric that has inspired you?
"You know how to push my buttons / Because you were the one who wired them in / And you know where my skeletons are buried / Because you helped me dig the graves / And I'm afraid / I'm wearing my ugliness / Like a shameful, slaughtered mink skin coat / And you know / And you know / Every fettered fibre and follicle / Because you stitched and sewed the seams and hems / And when will / When will it end? / Where and when will I be stung by the inevitable sting"
From 'Mink Skin Coat' by Cassels.
A song you wished you had written?
'Weed Pin' by Drug Chruch.
Best song to turn up loud?
'Green' by Touche Amore.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'Playing With Uranium' by Duran Duran.
The song to get you straight on the dance floor?
'Cute Without The 'E' by Taking Back Sunday.
Best song to end an all-nighter?
'For What It's Worth' by Buffalo Springfield.
Any new bands you are into at the moment?
Regal Cheer, Public Body, Sit Down, Projector, Sunny Gym, Pillowhead, Big Slammu.
