What do you do?
Artistic Del Boy and beer-fuelled dreamer… Writer/singer/actress.
Where are you from?
Brighton.
Describe your style in three words?
Casual, Hats, Attitude.
Which sub-cultures have had an enduring effect on you?
Well, I grew up in a commune and on the road, so my inner hippy is still there under the eyeliner and angst. Apart from chants about Mother Earth, we used to sing a good amount of Bob Marley. Three Little Birds is up there with my favourite tracks.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
I had a childhood crush on Marilyn Monroe. I was fascinated by the way she invented this whole magnetic persona while the woman underneath was both a canny survivor and victim all at once. 'I Wanna Be Loved by You'.
Another you? Any other career that would have appealed?
Blondie – 'Hanging on the Telephone'. Now, this song is tenuously linked ;) But I fancy being a detective... Although, I may have been swayed by fictional depictions of detectives. From Miss Marple to Olivia Benson in Law and Order. And a bit of Nancy Drew. But there’s bound to some phone tapping in the job spec.
Best Gig you have ever been to?
Patti Smith at the Troxy. I’ve seen her lots but there was something about the venue, and my (now wife) had bought me tickets as a surprise. We were in the woo-ing stage. She did good. 'Because The Night' is one of our songs...
Of all the venues you’ve played, which is your favourite, and why?
Ally Pally! I used to live around the corner many years before I got to play the venue. I had so many memories, had been to gigs there, to the pub, to the bonfire nights, yadda yadda. And then to play it was amazing. And it was with my brother which was even more amazing.
Following work as an actor, Lucie Barât turned her attention to music, fronting The Au Revoirs and releasing as a solo artist among other projects.

Tracey Chapman - 'Mountains O' Things', after an intense period of Jimi Hendrix and a less intense/cool Kylie period.

Warsaw Radio - 'After Eve', my bass player’s band.
One record you would keep forever?
Patti Smith - 'Horses'.

‘… sniffed me out like I was Tanquery’ Amy Winehouse – 'You Know I’m No Good.'
The lyrics to this song are so economic but heart-wrenching and so descriptive.
A song that people wouldn’t expect you to like?
Justin Timberlake – 'Cry Me A River'.
A song you wished you had written?
The Libertines – 'Good Old Days'.
It has that rousing, emotive and nostalgic melody/lyrics/whole shebang. Puts me right back in that moment, in the flat I was living in back when they wrote it.

Loyle Carner, The Sulks, Rosie Langley, Fresh Like Dexy and Honeyshake.
