Onur, London.
Describe your style in three words?
Road posh man.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Leon Bridges at Citadel Fest in London 2018.
Somehow me and my mates were able to get to the front, and everyone around us was just absolutely loving the gig, and so were we. So the energy was just nuts in that tent. On top of that Leon, himself was amazing, and his new album was just full of bangers, so yeah I’d say that was the best one.
If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
It would probably be Jeff Buckley, me and then Kanye. I don’t know why, it just feels right haha.
Which Subcultures have influenced you?
Hip-hop and skateboarding culture, for its fashion and music choices. '90s Hip hop culture was a big thing for me. Cypress Hill were just so so funky with their beats and delivery. And then I would say mod culture for its fashion. I quite like to mix British heritage brands with regular streetwear when it comes to my sense of style. Gotta have the best of both worlds!
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Nobody that famous or anything... My grandfather. I never got to meet him, but everyone in my family has always said what a kind and giving person he was. Apparently he always smiled and never shouted. All those that knew him ever had anything bad to say about him. I’d genuinely just really love to sit down and chat to him. A song that reminds me of the memory of him is this beautiful Turkish song: 'Anlamazdin' by Ayla Dikmen.
Of all the venues you’ve been to, which is your favourite?
The O2 Arena! The first-ever gig I saw there was John Mayer. Anyone who knows me, knows that I rinse his live album at the Nokia theatre every week. He's just such a phenomenal guitar player and songwriter. And the O2... it's an amazing venue, with good vibes all around! Right by the Thames. It’s kind of like bit of a utopia in my head haha.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Good question. I’d say Jai Paul. His album leaking before completion is heartbreaking, because he really was onto something so special. He dropped like two tunes at the start of the 2010s and I’m only now seeing people start to make music like him and use his techniques. His influence on production cannot be overstated. He’s just one of those artists that’s completely in his own lane. He never got to fully make the impact he wanted/could have made.
After a few years spent sculpting his sound, 23-year-old, Onur started releasing his original music in 2018, with a trilogy of singles. His debut EP 'A Millennial Rhapsody' cemented his reputation and his latest single 'What U Do' is out now.

Honestly, it’s the perfect pop song. I never listened to music the same again after hearing that song.

'Move Me' - Mura Masa.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
You know what? 'Shake It Off' by Taylor Swift is a banger I won’t lie.
The song to get you straight on the dance floor?
'Uptown Funk' - Mark Ronson. Another banger!
Best song to end an all-nighter?
'Heroes' - David Bowie.
Any new bands you are into at the moment?
They’re not new but I recently discovered them: it's a band called Young Fathers!
I think they’re absolutely amazing. Just so well put together artistically.
