Name, where are you from?
Åsa Söderqvist, Kramfors, Västernorrland, Sweden.
Describe your style in three words?
Grunge Pop Diva.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Hmm I’ve seen a lot of amazing gigs but can’t really compare them to each other. I saw VERO for the first time a while back and it was amazing. Kylie Minogue grunge.
If you could be on the line-up with any two bands in history?
Young Iggy Pop + Stooges and young Rolling Stones - because at the moment I’m boy crazy. Think we would have fun.
Which subcultures have influenced you?
I’m influenced by all subcultures in some way I think. My most ”worn” ones must be grunge, punk and emo. My first one was emo and after that my style has gone pretty normcore, passing thru subcultures above. I still wear Dr Martens but that’s pretty much it.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Nancy Spungen. Maybe she could make me feel normal and less crazy by comparison.
Of all the venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
I like big stages with a lot of space. We played in a big beautiful theatre in Norrköping once during the Where’s The Music? festival. I’m also a big fan of Stureplan’s Obaren in Stockholm cause the stage is on top of a big slope of seats. Makes you feel superior to everyone else.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Hmm... I’m a mainstream girl. I guess Sneaks is a bit unsung? She uses bass and drum machine which are my favourite instruments, but she manages to avoid being boring despite using only that and she has a good two-minute length on most songs.
ShitKid first appeared in the spring of 2016 with a self-titled debut EP and quickly rose to prominence as one of the most exciting new acts out of Scandinavia, with a unique DIY-edge and an unwillingness to conform. After the success of the debut album and multiple tours around Europe, and slots at festivals like Roskilde, Way Out West, The Great Escape, ShitKid is now back with new music – her fourth collection of tracks in under two years.
The first track you played on repeat?
The first? Ever? Too much of a rock star to have that kind of memory but I remember our most repeated song from mom’s car CDs which was Eagle-Eye Cherry - 'When Mermaids Cry'.
A song that defines the teenage you?
Simple Plan - 'I'm Just A Kid'
One record you would keep forever?
Britney - 'Britney'
A song lyric that has inspired you?
First thing that comes to mind is “you look a bit like coffee and you taste a bit like me”
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - 'The Skin Of My Yellow Country Teeth'.
A song you wished you had written?
I think I’d make an amazing version of Weezer's 'Say It Ain't So'.
Best song to turn up loud?
Sum 41 - 'Fat Lip'
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
Haha probably a few of the above. My fave genre is guilty pleasure. Maybe 'Old School' by Urban Cone.
Best song to end an all-nighter?
'Where Everybody Knows Your Name (Cheers Theme)' - Gary Portnoy
Goodbye song.
Any new bands you are into at the moment?
I’ll name another one from VERO. All their songs are great - 'Virtue'.
Bhad Bhabie - 'These Heaux'.
Jelly Crystal - 'Now Awake'.
Sarah Klang - 'Rock N Roll Blues'.
And my favourite boyband Spice Boys of course - 'I Don't Get Around'.
