A Tenderhost Photo
Name, where are you from?
Gabriel Levy, London.
Describe your style in three words?
Dry clean only.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
I went to see David Byrne a couple of years ago on a whim, so had no expectations and hadn’t heard 'American Utopia' yet. The musicianship and performances were one thing, but paired with the choreography theatrics made it a really unforgettable experience. One of those ones where you can’t really believe what you’re seeing/hearing.
If you could be on the line up with any two artists in history?
Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band and Elis Regina.
Which subcultures have influenced you?
I was a proper little screamo/emo kid, and got absolutely slated for it at school. Bands like Slipknot, Paramore and Bullet For My Valentine got me through. I’d get home and learn how to play their entire discographies, so I suppose it influenced my guitar playing. Terrible haircuts though.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Don Rickles, for the Sinatra stories and belly laughs. Plus if you close your eyes, you’re talking to Mr Potato Head.
Of all the venues you’ve been to or played, which is your favourite?
MAP Studio Cafe in Kentish Town.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Rubén González, most famously of Buena Vista Social Club.

One record you would keep forever?
'Falso Brilhante' by Elis Regina.
A song lyric that has inspired you?
"Songs build little rooms in time
And housed within the song's design
Is the ghost the host has left behind
To greet and sweep the guest inside
Stoke the fire and sing his lines"
From 'Snow Is Falling In Manhattan' by Purple Mountains.
The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
'Golden Years' by David Bowie.
A song you wished you had written?
'Goodbye (She Quietly Says)' by Frank Sinatra.
Best song to turn up loud?
'Point and Kill' by Little Simz or 'Lagoon' by Horsey.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
Anything by Doja Cat.
Best song to end an all-nighter on?
'The Sweet Time Suite: Part 1 - Opening' by Kenny Wheeler.
Any new music you are listening to right now?
