Musicians — Kent
A The Gallerys Photo
Name and what do you do?
Craig Barden (Bass and Vocals), James Wood (Guitar and Vocals) and Dan Maggs (Drums and Vocals).
Where are you from?
Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells, both in Kent.
Describe your style in three words?
Alternative, rock and indie.
Which sub-cultures have had an enduring effect on you?
CB: Thanks to my Dad's love of ska music, the rudeboy subculture made popular by The Specials, Madness and The Selecter, has definitely had an enduring effect on me.
JW: '60s Subculture has been my main influence, I fell in love with bands like The Who, The Beatles, The Kinks, The Yardbirds and The Rolling Stones. I loved the raw sound of the '60s together with the modernist Style. The track would have to be Substitute by The Who.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
CB: Paul McCartney. Would chat about the recording of Sgt Pepper and Magical Mystery Tour. I'd bring a few acoustic guitars for a quick jam too.
DM: I would spend an hour with Keith Moon. His way of life and drumming abilities would make for a lovely conversation over a cuppa.
JW: Have to be an hour with Keith Richards. What a legend, bet he’d have a few stories to tell.
Another you? Any other career that would have appealed?
CB: Being a writer seems like a cool career. Making characters and stories when writing songs is always challenging. Look out for a CB novel in Waterstones soon.
DM: I always used to be pretty nifty with a camera and software so photography/editing of some sort would've suited me. Failing that, probably a zookeeper.
JW: If I wasn’t a musician I have no idea what I’d be doing. I love photography and clothes so maybe something to do with those.
Best Gig you have ever been to?
CB: The Who at the o2 Arena, playing Quadrophenia in its entirety. Townshend and Daltrey were unreal and have still got it. Highlight of the night was Love Reign O'er Me.
DM: Red Hot Chili Peppers, Knebworth, 2012. Being stood at the front was a dream come true for me.
JW: Best gig I’ve been to was when I saw The Rifles at Koko in Camden last year, can’t remember much but what a great night...
Of all the venues you’ve played, which is your favourite, and why?
CB: The Thekla in Bristol is literally a boat on water, making it a really unique and cool venue. We supported The Rifles on tour at The Thekla, and when we were playing, we could actually feel the boat moving from side to side which was quality. Luckily, I don't get seasick.
JW: Definitely have to be Tunbridge Wells Forum, they're like family and have been so good to us, and so many other bands over the years. Great venue and great people, can’t go wrong.
Kent three-piece, TheGallerys have supported the likes of Madness, The English Beat ft Dave Wakeling, The Skints, The Rifles, Secret Affair, Mark Morriss (Bluetones) and The Standard Lamps. Their contemporary guitar-driven indie pop is given a '60s vibe thanks to the band's three-piece harmonies that echo iconic British songs from the era. Watch out for new releases in the near future.

"Do what you want if it takes your mind
Better do it now, 'cos you won't have time
And never worry if people laugh at you
The fools only laugh 'cos they envy you"
JW: Neil Young - 'Like a Hurricane'
"You are just a dreamer, and I am just a dream,
you could have been anyone to me"

For fussing and fighting, my friend"
