Musician — Haslemere
A Yellow Days Photo
Name
George Van Den Broek aka Yellow Days.
Where are you from?
I'm from the south of England, a town called Haslemere.
Describe your style in three words?
neo-blues soul.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
I went to a jazz club called Smalls when I was in New York and I'd never heard jazz live before and there was an amazing group of musicians playing, it was huge.
If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
Alton Elis and Booker T & The MG's.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Would have to be Ray Charles, have had dreams about that.
Of all the venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
I don't really have a favourite, I like playing shows I've never done before.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Elmore James, his voice and guitar, no more needs to be said.
The first track you played on repeat?
'Baby Let Me Hold Your Hand' by Ray Charles.
A song that defines the teenage you?
'Freaking Out The Neighbourhood' by Mac Demarco.
One record you would keep forever?
'Keyboard King At Studio One' by Jackie Mittoo.
A song lyric that has inspired you?
"You give your hand to me then you say goodbye,
I watched you walk away besides the lucky guy.
Oh, you will never know the one who loves you so,
cos you don't know me."
'You Don't Know Me' by Ray Charles. If you listen to the whole song the lyrical development is so powerful and sad - hits the tear ducts like a sledgehammer.
A song you wished you had written?
'I'm Alive' by Johnny Thunder.
Best song to turn up loud?
'Screaming Target' by Big Youth.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'Spaceship' by Kanye West.
Any new bands you are listening to now?
Take 6.
