Singer — Cardiff
A Estrons Photo
Name and what do you do?
My name is Tali, and I’m the singer of Estrons.
Describe your style in three words?
Borrowed, found and broken
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Deerhoof. I saw them in a converted church called The Point in Cardiff, which got shut down because apartments got opened up next to it. The drummer was hitting so hard he nearly killed me with his drumstick – it just went flying.
If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
Smashing Pumpkins - because their legendary and apparently cannot stand each other. My favourite track has got to be 'Annie Dog'. Another would be Eels. I’ve listened to Mr E since I was a child, listen to 'Dog Faced Boy'. Dogs are a theme apparently.
Which subcultures have influenced you?
Definitely post-punk movements. Kate Bush and bands like The Slits were a huge influence on my mother’s liberal parenting and outlook. It certainly shaped the way I viewed society and sought to rebel and question values even from a young age.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
My grandmother. She passed when I was 8 and I was due to fly out to see her in Canada but she died before I got there unexpectedly. I’d like to see her again and ask her what she thought of me now. A song you wish you had written?
Of all the venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
Summerhall in Edinburgh. We played 6 nights in a row there supporting Pussy Riot and it began to feel like home. The room was big and had character, history. The staff and audiences were amazing, I got sad when we had to leave.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Heddwyn Davies of Threatmantics. That band deserved and still deserves big things and he is the most talented songwriters I’ve ever met. Listen to 'Big Man'.
Estrons long-awaited debut album 'You Say I'm Too Much, I Say You're Not Enough' is out now, supported by the explosive new single 'Body'. Estrons have recently supported Garbage and Pussy Riot and the band are scheduled to tour the UK from October (2018) on. Find out more at www.estrons.com
What was the first song you played on repeat?
Elliott Smith – 'Needle In The Hay'.
A song that defines the teenage you?
PJ Harvey - 'Who The F*ck?' (that still stands)
One record you would keep forever?
Jill Scott - 'Who is Jill Scott?'
A song lyric that has inspired you?
“Old people don’t care because they know they will die”
Husky Loops - 'The Man'
The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
Vybz Kartel - 'Beatn Beatn'
A song you wished you had written?
Blur - 'Tender'
Best song to turn up loud?
Childish Gambino - 'This is America'
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
Ween - 'Object'
Best song to end an all-nighter on?
Louis Prima - 'Just a Gigolo'
Any new bands you are listening to right now?
Whomadewho - 'Heads Above'
IDLES - 'Danny Nedelko'
