03Interview

Name, where are you from?

Hello we are headboy, Mars Jess and Oli and we are all from London. North, South, West.

Describe your style (dress sense) in three words?

Washed-up sea urchins. Skater boy adjacent.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to (and why)?

We managed to catch English Teacher at The Old Blue Last this winter. It was one of those first come first served ones - there was a queue literally going out the door and we were pretty sure we wouldn’t get in, but fate was kind and granted us entry. We were all feeling the winter blues a little but English Teacher brought us into their world.

If you could be on the line up with any two bands/artists in history - who would it be and why?

Courtney Barnett, we admire her storytelling; she makes you want to be in a band. King Krule - similarly we love the sense of characters, eeriness - strong imagery.

Which subcultures have influenced you (and why)?

It feels like we grew up in London three times. Once when we were teenagers - trudging out to zone 6 every weekend for squat raves. Then again a few years later - finding a home in the queer DIY scene. Thirdly when we started playing shows and found our scene and all the people in it.

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history - who would it be and why?

We are collectively reading Kim Gordon’s autobiography Girl in Band - would be cool to get tea sometime.

Of all the venues you’ve been to or played, which is your favorite (and why)?

The Windmill Brixton for sure. I guess it's where we started and also we’ve seen some great things there - Horsey, Lime Garden, Goat Girl, Sam Akpro. It feels like a home and a place to try new things.

Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music (and why)?

Our producer Joe Futak is undeniably a cornerstone of the DIY london scene, on a mission to make punk bands into Indie Folk. He also produces Lilo, nudista, Tapir, Mathilde and many more. We love working with him. He's an absolute star (and is also an Arsenal fan which helps…).
