The Jam - Down In The Tube Station At Midnight - Full Version

I fell in love with this as a twelve year old, and had this whole LP on repeat in my little box room, flipping it over from side to side constantly, must have driven my parents mad.

A song from your favorite album?

Syl Johnson - Black Balloons

I could have picked from 20 LPs, but this is so soulful for me, beautiful music, sang with such feelings and words packed full of meaning and a political edge. This my lights out volume up LP.

A song from your most memorable gig?

Edwin Starr - War

Definitely my most memorable gig as I managed to get on the stage and sing this with Edwin at a soul weekender, although my favourite gig was Paul Weller Movement at QM Student Union Glasgow only around 200 people there and Weller was back with a bang.

A song that always gets you up and dancing?

Little Johnny Taylor - Somewhere Down the Line

It could have been this or 'Our Love Will Grow' by The Showmen, both haven't been out my DJ play box for years, simply because I love dancing to them.

A new song you're listening to?

Curtis Harding - Hopeful

Got this November 2021, such an uplifting sound, there is not a bad track on this LP, if you haven't got it go get it. Great slice of modern soul.

Best song to turn up loud?

The Beatles - Tomorrow Never Knows - Remastered 2009

That intro, the beat, the drums, the story behind Lennon and the vocals, this was dance music way ahead of anything at the time, groundbreaking, a definite volume up job.

A song that defines the teenage you?

The Jam - Boy About Town

Who didn't think they were a Boy About Town as a 13 or 14 year old? All that confidence and attitude, all that mattered to you at that age was music, clothes, girls... and saving up for that scooter... life was simple, Fred Perry, a parka and a swagger.

An anthemic song?

The Jam - Town Called Malice

Far be from me to argue with Mr Weller, he said this song is now firmly in the hands of his audience, although not my favourite Jam song, it doesn't matter if it's heard on the radio, karaoke, pub jukebox or at a gig everyone knows the words.

Best song to end an all-nighter?

Ray Charles - Hit the Road Jack

I just like sending everybody home in a good mood, it has that happy vibe about it and works in well for last orders at our type of event, whilst still retaining a class delivery, I also love Georgie Fames version of 'Daylight' and Vinnie Zen 'Bricks, Broken Bottles and Sticks'.
