A Lynks Photo
Name, where are you from?
My name is Lynks Afrikka. I’m from your wildest dreams, but also South East London.
Describe your style in three words?
Socks and sandals.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
FKA twigs at The Roundhouse in 2015. She was, at the time, my favourite artist in the world and she went above and beyond. Choreography, lights and music used together like nothing I’d ever seen. This video should explain what I mean.
If you could be on the line up with any two artists in history?
Kygo and Martin Garrix to make me look better by comparison.
Which subcultures have influenced you?
Aesthetically, I draw all my inspiration from Leigh Bowery and '90s Club Kid culture. I’ve always been obsessed with transformation and club kids transform themselves into something beyond human.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
God, just to set the record straight.
Of all the venues you’ve been to or played, which is your favourite?
I will always have a soft spot for The Old England in Bristol. It’s where I started music and where I met everyone that got me into it in the first place. It’s a bit of a second home now.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Mutsumi. She has virtually no views - probably because her music is absolutely deranged. I love it.
Drag, music and theatre colliding in a daze of queer industrial pop; with a singular aim of bringing joy back to club culture. Lynks recently released their new single 'This Is The Hit' with Shame's Charlie Steen. Listen below.
More details can be found at Lynks' Instagram, Facebook, and Spotify pages.
The first track you played on repeat?
'The Sound of Music' by Julie Andrews (according to my mum).
A song that defines the teenage you?
'Like A Virgin' by Madonna.
One record you would keep forever?
'Hunky Dory' by David Bowie.
A song lyric that has inspired you?
“It’s alright to feel like a fat child in a pushchair / old enough to run.”
From 'No Reptiles' by Everything Everything.
The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
'Call Your Girlfriend' by Robyn.
A song you wished you had written?
'Dick In The Air' by Peaches.
Best song to turn up loud?
'Ponyboy' by SOPHIE.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'The Last Time I Saw Richard' by Joni Mitchell.
Best song to end an all-nighter on?
'Loaded' by Primal Scream.
Any new music you are listening to right now?
'Unemployed' by Tierra Whack.
'Everyday' by Weyes Blood.
'U KNOW ME' by COBRAH.
