Musicians — Manchester
A Mewn Photo
We're Mewn - Daniel Bluer (vocals), Rachel Bell (guitar), Matt Protz (keys), Daniel Cowman (drums) and Daniel Johnson (bass) and we're based in South Manchester.
Spiny propeller hat.
The most memorable we've been to collectively was Father John Misty at Liverpool's Eventim Olympia, a beautiful venue originally an indoor circus and theatre. He just played everything we wanted to hear and rather than leaving early to catch the last train we stayed for what turned out to be one more song and got an Uber all the way back to Manchester.
Pre-'Reflektor' Arcade Fire were by all accounts a force of nature live, the performance at Reading after 'The Suburbs' came out was incredible. To witness that close up would have been something. 'Yeezus' era Kanye West would have been pretty face melting on and off stage.
Any subculture that reduced the necessity of privilege to make art. Punk and hip-hop come to mind but I'm sure there have been and continue to be many across the world, I'm definitely no expert on subcultures.
It's not very historic but I would love to go for a drink with Angel Olson and just talk about music, have been pretty obsessed with her output for a while now. That transition from the stunning singer-songwriter stuff to 'All Mirrors' was something else. She's also got a bit of an air of mystery about her from some interviews which I enjoy. The chance to meet her would be pretty cool.
To play the Mountain Stage at Green Man Festival with the backdrop of the Brecon Beacons would be a dream.
Taylor Kirk of Timber Timbre writes songs as good as anyone and creates a dark haunting atmosphere that is then punctured by light and gives you a very specific feeling that is hard to describe. Why he and the band are not bigger is a mystery, 'Timber Timbre' and 'Creep on Creepin On' are two of the greatest albums ever written in our opinion.
Mewn recently released their EP 'Landscapes Unchanged'. Listen, purchase or stream it via linktr.ee/mewnband.
I have strong memories of smashing 'A Boy Named Sue' by Johnny Cash. Watched ‘Walk The Line’ and it had a big impact.
'You Might Think He Loves You For Your Money but I Know What He Really Loves You for It's Your Brand New Leopard Skin Pillbox Hat' by Death Grips.
'Songs From A Room' or any other of Leonard Cohen's first three records, enough for you to chew on for a very long time.
"Strike another match, go start anew"
From 'It's All Over Now, Baby Blue' by Bob Dylan.
'Miami' by Baxter Dury. No explanation needed.
'Masterpiece' by Big Thief. A modern classic.
'The Wide-Open Beaver of Nashville' by Country Teasers. Turn to eleven and do a headstand.
'Don't Stop Believin' by Journey. Because of The Sopranos.
'I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free' by Nina Simone will restore the warmth to your tummy no questions asked.
'A Celebration' by Blue Bendy.
'LAZY_EASY' by Bunny Hoova.
'Artificial Flavour' by The Early Mornings
'Turn Fast' by Glows.
'Comes and Goes' by GADZOOKS!
