A Ora Violet Photo
Photo: Enzo Cesanelli
Name, where are you from?
Tim (Australia), Will (Italy), Nick (Italy), Jeet (India) and Adam (Northern Ireland).
What do you do?
We make the best rock and roll you’ve ever heard.
Describe your style in three words?
Rock and Roll.
A British icon or band who inspire your sound?
The Clash. They were at the same time part of a movement and deeply original. And they had bags of style.
Which music defines the teenage you?
W: Depeche Mode. They made me feel accepted because I was wearing makeup at the time.
What has been your all-time favourite gig?
T & W: Tortoise at the Barbican. They had two drummers throughout the entire gig and the band members kept swapping instruments. Amazing musicianship. Andy from Stereolab was also there in the crowd, he ended up producing a song from a previous band we were in (Personal Space Invaders).
What was the first song you played on repeat?
T: 'Paint It Black' by The Stones. I had to learn the drum parts for my first band.
A song from your favourite album?
J: 'Go with The Flow' by Queens Of The Stone Age. It oozes coolness and the video blew me away when I first saw it.
A song you wish you’d written?
'Teenage Kicks' by The Undertones, no need to explain that.
What is the last piece of music you bought?
T: 'Typhoons' by Royal Blood. Always been a big fan. Let’s go with 'Trouble’s Coming'.
Best song to bring people together?
A: 'Daft Punk Is Playing At My House' by LCD SoundSystem, impossible not to dance when this comes on.
Best love song of all time?
N: 'Caravan' by Blur – I don’t even know if it’s a love song but to me it is. It melts my heart every time I listen to it.
Is there a song you like that people wouldn’t expect?
A: 'In The Air Tonight' by Phil Collins. Those drums are insane.
What new music/bands are you listening to?
N: The Pearl Harts are badass girls who make proper, badass rock and roll – listen to 'Suck It Up', the song and the EP.
