Richard Hawley from Sheffield.

Describe your style in three words?
Rough as f*ck…
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Echo and the Bunnymen in Portland Oregon, late '90s. They were truly majestic that night.
If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
Elvis and Hendrix… the end!
Which Subcultures have influenced you?
All of them - I heard it all in the '80s in the Limit Club - what a beautiful place to start.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Oppenheimer so I could say "don’t do it Pal…..oops too late"
Of all the venues you’ve been to, which is your favourite?
The Leadmill - Sheffield - so many beginnings, middles and endings...
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Of late I’ve been much enamoured by the works of Adrian Flanagan and comrades (International Teachers of Pop/Moonlandingz). Not necessarily unsung but possibly should be sung louder.
Richard Hawley's eighth studio album 'Further' will be released on 31st May.
A former member of The Longpigs and Pulp, Richard Hawley has since released a string of acclaimed solo albums including 'Standing At The Sky's Edge' in 2012. He has also collaborated with such notable artists as Paul Weller, Manic Street Preachers, Shirley Bassey and fellow Sheffield musicians, Arctic Monkeys.
2019 also saw a musical, 'Standing At The Sky's Edge', open at the Sheffield Crucible Theatre. The production, which features several of his songs, follows the stories of three families who live on the city’s Park Hill estate across three generations. The narrative moves through the post-War optimism during which the estate was built, its decline into a no-go area in the late '80s, and its more recent gentrification.
