A The Amazons Photo
Name?
The Amazons
Where are you from?
Sunny Reading
What do you do?
We play Rock n Roll.
Describe your style in three words?
Dark, simple, classic.
You can make a record with anyone from history - who would it be?
Brian Eno. His ability to get the best and most interesting work out of the artists he's worked with is amazing.
What do you miss about home when you're on tour?
Personal space, frequent hot meals, own bed... the list goes on... but we love being on the road.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been too?
Matt (lead vocal and rhythm guitar) and Joe (drums) saw Iggy Pop at the Royal Albert Hall last summer. It was on the Post-Depression tour so he was backed by Josh Homme, Dean Fertita and Troy Van Leeuwen from Queens of the Stone Age with Matt Helders on drums. I think it was one of Iggy's last big performances in the UK so it felt special and a little bittersweet.
What British music icons inspire your sound today?
I think the last Arctic Monkeys album was a very cool record. The sound of the album and the style of the band, especially Alex Turner made a big mark on the British scene.
You can spend an hour with anyone from history - who would it be?
I think Joe would appreciate a drumming and drinking session with John Bonham. Joe could show John his tattoo, and learn how to hit the drums even harder.
The Amazons are a 4-piece rock n roll band from Reading who are hotly tipped to break in 2017 as part of the British New Wave, after they released a slew of killer singles throughout 2016.
Their debut album has already been recorded so expect a release date to be announced imminently, in the meantime you can catch them on their EU/UK tour throughout Feb - Apr 2017.
What was the first song you played on repeat?
My parents had the Bruce Springsteen Greatest Hits on CD, I'd play the 1st track on the album 'Born To Run' over and over again.
One record you would keep forever?
'Go With The Flow' by Queens of the Stone Age.
Song you wish you had written?
'Genghis Khan' by Miike Snow.
Song that defines the teenage you?
'Rebellion' by Arcade Fire.
A song lyric that inspires you?
"They know my name because I told it to them,
But they don't know where, and they don't know when,
It's coming or when But it's coming.
keep the car running."
'Keep The Car Running' by Arcade Fire.
4 songs by new bands you can’t stop listening to right now?
'Feel It' by Otherkin
Insanely catchy and cool. Harks back to early 00's Strokes/Hives no-nonsense but with a dark edge. They're supporting us on our UK tour in March.
'Break The Silence' by Palace
Opening track from our label mates' debut record and its a brooding and driving slice of dark indie rock.
'Make A Man' by Estrons
Our favourite track from the most exciting group out of Wales for a long time. High energy swaggering punk. Estrons are supporting us on our April leg of the UK Tour.
'Breakfast' by Anteros
We've heard what's coming next from these guys and it sounds huge. For the time being this power pop belter will more than suffice.
