Describe your style in three words?
Mercurial, Unique, Unapologetic.
The first track you played on repeat?
Tyler, The Creator - Treehome95 (feat. Coco Owino & Erykah Badu)
Summer of 2013 I had this album on repeat, I remember exactly what I wore then too: light blue denim overall shorts with a baby blue eckō t-shirt that used to be my dads.
A song from your favorite album?
Grimes - IDORU
Grimes is one of my favourite artists. I love the atmosphere she creates with each song, it’s like walking into the weird and beautiful world Inside her head. This song makes me want to wear an ethereal fairy princess gown and make an enchanted forest using my magic powers.
A song from your most memorable gig?
Beyoncé - Halo
The I Am: Sasha Fierce tour was my first ever concert and I went to see her with my mum. I was 10 years old and I was so blown away by her talent I think I forgot to breathe for most of it. When she sang 'Halo' she dedicated it to Michael Jackson.
A song that always gets you up and dancing?
BUCK-TICK - スピード
I love rock but this is different to the stuff I usually listened to and it has an otherworldly essence to it. I love how the band challenge gender norms with their styling. Please go watch their MV’s they are super inspiring!
A new song you're listening to?
LA Priest - What Moves
I first heard of him through his song ‘Oino’ and I thought it was really cool and different. He recently released his second album and I was obsessed with this song 5 secs in! The unconventional vocal style complements the funky beat so well and I love how he layers his vocals.
Best song to turn up loud?
Queens of the Stone Age - Go With The Flow
One of the few physical albums I own. This is one of the first songs I heard by QOTSA and I thought the MV was really cool and unique so I think I became a fan from there. I really love their lyrics too!
A song that defines the teenage you?
Lana Del Rey - Video Games - Remastered
When I first heard Lana it was this song. The MV was on TV and I was enchanted by the montage of random vintage clips mixed with webcam-like videos of Lana singing along. She really inspired me during my teen years and to some extent helped shape me as the artist I am now.
An anthemic song?
Bag Raiders - Shooting Stars
It reminds me of last summer when I was in San Francisco. Me and my friends were driving 3hrs to a camping spot. It was late afternoon and the sun was getting lower in the sky, the air was warm and blowing through the car windows as we had the song blasting through the speakers.
Best song to end an all-nighter?
Blood Orange - Bad Girls
Lethargic in tempo, as if its limbs are heavy. He sets the scene in your mind with each sound, each instrument and envelopes it all with his emotive vocals that sound as though they are coming directly from his heart. I love Dev. He is one of the most talented artists out there.
