Model / Musician — London
A Emile Photo
Name, where are you from?
Hey there. My name is Emile I’m from Nottingham and live in North West London.
What do you do?
I model and make music and will soon be on my way to study filmmaking at university later this year.
Describe your style in three words?
My style varies on my mood, but I would say:
Old Schooled, Authentic, Coordinated.
Which music defines the teenage you?
I think for a lot of people in my generation, Playboi Carti’s 'Die Lit' defines our teenage years. Nothing was better for me than that summer 2018. That and The Weeknd's 'Trilogy'. My brother put me on that when I was 12 and I’m still playing it to this day as if it’s new.
A British icon or band who inspire your sound?
Sade! A Queen. Enough said. Sampha is my honourable mention. For me personally, he’s an underrated legend. His production is unreal and his voice is so unique. All his music really hits home for me.
What has been your all-time favourite gig?
Definitely Frank Ocean at Lovebox 2017. I’m never normally star-struck but his presence is powerful. He arrived an hour late and no one was bothered as soon as he started singing. That was pretty surreal.
What was the first song you played on repeat?
'Over' by Drake! I’m an OG Drake fan. I remember hearing that song when I was 10 and it was probably the first song I really got into and learnt the lyrics.
A song from your favourite album?
This is so hard I don’t have a favourite album 'cause there’s too many. I’m gonna go with 'Devil In A New Dress' from Kanye West 'My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy' and I’m only choosing that cause I had a conversation about what’s the best Kanye album a few days back.
A song you wish you’d written?
'Isn’t She Lovely' by Stevie Wonder. To be honest, sometimes I wish I was Stevie Wonder.
What is the last piece of music you bought?
'Cause of streaming I haven’t bought any music in years! But I remember my first piece of music that I bought being 'Teflon Don' by Rick Ross. A classic in my eyes.
Best song to bring people together?
'Candy' by Cameo! Play that at any black family’s party and I’ll bet my right arm, 85% of people are dancing.
Best love song of all time?
'I Can’t Stop Loving You' by Kem. He produced it himself and went #1. Legendary guy.
Is there a song you like that people wouldn’t expect?
'thousand eyes' by FKA Twigs. I fell in love with her and her music last year during the first lockdown. She’s an unreal vocalist and all her melodies sound beautiful.
What new music/bands are you listening to?
Not really new in the scene but I’ve recently really got into Steve Lacy. I think he’s super talented and the fact he made his first mixtape on his iPhone blows my mind.
