Throat / Selecter — Tokyo
A Imazato Photo
Name
IMAZATO (STRUGGLE FOR PRIDE)
What do you do?
Throat / Music Selecter
Where are you from?
Shimokitazawa / Tokyo.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Alice Coltrane. I saw her gig in the auditorium at the University of Michigan in November 2006. She passed away in January of the following year, so I think it was probably her last one. I visited a friend who lived in Detroit and I found the flyer at a record shop.
Which sub-cultures have influenced you?
Scooter culture. I’m making a new one currently.
Of all the venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
THREE in Shimokitazawa. When I played there with a friend’s band, I made a bet that I could liven up the audience, I didn't lose.
If you could be on the line up with any artist in history?
Nate Dogg.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Vindose. There is a lot to talk to him about.
Your greatest unsung hero (or heroine) in music?
Damon of The Pugilist. A band who were only active for several years in the early 2000's.
How did you select the tracks for this playlist?
The concept is a broken heart. Basically, I prefer a bit of sad music and recently I have been listening to songs about broken hearts a lot.
The first track you played on repeat?
From memory, ‘Motorhead’ by Motorhead. I was skateboarding when I was at Junior High School, and everyone listened to it.
A song that defines the teenage you?
‘Silver Machine’ by Hawk Wind. It is my "1st Summer Of Love", personally.
One record you would keep forever?
'Trueforce Official Rules'. Last night I listened to 'Theme For Trueforce' by West Side Boys Choir.
A song lyric that has inspired you?
‘Ain't Done Yet’ by LRF. I think back to this from time to time.
Best song to turn up loud?
'Crazy' by DETERMINATIONS. Toward the latter half of the song, the voice tends to get louder.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
Recently I've been listening to The Rolling Stones. I began to listen to them as I want to do a reggae cover. I especially like 'You Can’t Get Always What You Want'.
Any new bands you are listening to now?
Shoko & The Akilla - a two-piece band. Their gig performances are unstable every time, it's great.
