A Reek0 Photo
Name, where are you from?
Reek0, Tottenham.
Describe your style in three words?
Outdoorsy, cosy, block-colours.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Lynx Affair my uncles 40th birthday rave with Samtheman, one of the most f*cked venues I’ve been in. Me and Samtheman were the youngest amongst some real ravers haha.
If you could be on the line up with any two artists in history?
Brighter Days, they are the family, I make most my music with them but also, we all have such great friendships. Doing a tour would be wholesome. Billy Boyo, he is my favourite Jamaican vocalist ever, god rest his soul.
Which subcultures have influenced you?
Roots reggae history, I'm studying it for my dissertation and I honestly feel like by the end of it I will become a rasta. As a Jamaican boy growing up in inner London reggae music was such a huge part of that.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
An hour with J Dilla would be revolutionary, I would just want to listen to some records, sample some sh*t and vibe out, he’s one of the most influential people ever for me.
Of all the venues you’ve been to or played, which is your favourite?
Manchester was amazing to play at with my brothers. Such a great crowd, shelling off the place from like 1-4am of mandem bookings, I was pretty much on mic the whole night.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Ramonie. This is my brother from another mother, seeing this guy grow as a musician (but most importantly a person) over the last year or so has been beautiful to witness. The drive and integrity can only remind me of myself and I keep myself around real like-minded bruddas. So big up Ramonie.
Reek0 recently released his debut EP 'Good Dreams', stream it on Spotify here. For everything else follow him on Instagram @reek0__.
The first track you played on repeat?
'Speciality' by Dochi.
A song that defines the teenage you?
'Trouble' by Ekeno x Abra Cadabra.
One record you would keep forever?
'Setting' by Reek0 x Nia Archives.
A song lyric that has inspired you?
"And when she getting mad, she saying ima dog, so I follow your lead..."
From 'F.Y.L' by Frenzy.
The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
'Recognise' by Arfa x Joe.
A song you wished you had written?
'Stack & Grind' by IZCO x Capo Lee.
Best song to turn up loud?
'18 and Over' by Nia Archives.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'Day N Night' by MIJ, Len.
Best song to end an all-nighter on?
'Like U' by Natanya Popoola.
Any new music you are listening to right now?
'TWENITU' by SAMSON.
'Packed in!' by BXKS.
