A The Mysterines Photo
Name, where are you from?
Lia, Chrissy and George from Wirral. Merseyside.
Describe your style in three words?
ALL IN BLACK.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Lia: Echo and The Bunnymen in town (Liverpool), I was 15 and bladdered. I remember the feeling when watching ‘The Killing Moon’ live... It was a really overdramatic emotional Donnie Darko moment for me haha.
George: I went to see Royal Blood on their first headline tour at the 02 in Liverpool, it was incredible.
If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
The Strokes and Nirvana.
Which subcultures have influenced you?
George: The mod culture 100%.
Lia: Is voodoo a subculture?
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
David Cronenberg because he’s one crazy f*cked up motherf*cker like us haha... And his film ‘Videodrome’ is amazing. A cautionary reflection of our internet age. A FILM FOR ALL THE FAMILY! (Not).
Of all the venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
Moth Club London with Miles Kane.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Lia: Mine has to be Hamilton Leithauser from The Walkmen. Such an amazing songwriter. The lyrics in ‘I Lost You’ are heartbreaking, I love that haha. It’s like something from Dylan’s ‘Blood On The Tracks’. He’s one of my biggest influences.
George: Steve Marriott, Small Faces. I feel like when it comes to the '60s the Small Faces are underappreciated with their influence on the time. They heavily influenced Led Zeppelin... and Steve Marriott is cool as f*ck.
Chrissy: Ringo. No one swings like Ringo... check it out.
The first track you played on repeat?
George: 'Mr Blue Sky' by ELO.
Chrissy: 'Thugs' by Notorious B.I.G.
Lia: 'Love Man' by Otis Redding.
A song that defines the teenage you?
Lia: I’ll answer that in another 2 years. My teenage years ain’t over yet fortunately haha. They are yet to be defined.
Chrissy: 'Stoned and Starving' by Parquet Courts.
One record you would keep forever?
Chrissy: 'Born In The U.S.A.' by Springsteen.
Lia: 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' by Simon and Garfunkel.
George: Nirvana 'MTV Unplugged in New York'.
A song lyric that has inspired you?
'Help!' by The Beatles.
The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
Chrissy: 'Voulez Voulez' by ABBA.
George: 'Jungle Boogie' by Kool & The Gang.
Lia: 'Rebel Yell' by Billy Idol... There’s a video on YouTube of him and Miley Cyrus doing it live and they both have leather pants on, it’s unreal.
A song you wished you had written?
Lia: 'It Ain’t Me Babe' by Bob Dylan.
Chrissy: 'Bloody Mother F*cking Arsehole' by Martha Wainwright.
George: 'Valley of Tears' by Buddy Holly.
Best song to turn up loud?
In the van it’s always either 'Ace of Spades' by Motorhead, '212' by Azealia Banks, or 'Theme From Sparta F.C.' by The Fall.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
Lia: 'Be The One' by Dua Lipa... If Springsteen did that, it would be one of his best.
Chrissy: 'Song 4 Mutya (Out Of Control)' by Mutya Buena.
Best song to end an all-nighter on?
Depends on the all-nighter but you can never go wrong with 'Don’t Stop Me Now' by Queen.
Any new bands you are listening to right now?
'Resister' by She Drew The Gun.
'Lost Arts' by Marlowe.
'Uh Huh' by Jade Bird.
'As A Man' by Anna Calvi.
'Name Escape' by BODEGA.
