A Akemi Fox Photo
Name, where are you from?
My name is Akemi Fox and I’m from Manchester.
Describe your style in three words?
Fun, funky, and fresh.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
I think it's got to be Ne-yo I saw him at Manchester Apollo a couple of years ago, it was just massive nostalgia and I had so much fun belting every song lol!
If you could be on the line up with any two bands or artists in history?
Amy Winehouse and Destiny's Child. A bit of random mix but I’m all for that. I would just want to be in the presence of greatness really.
Which Subcultures have influenced you?
R&B, Neo-Soul mostly and I’d say Indie, and a bit of jazz. My Dad is very into music especially jazz, it was what I would hear mostly around the house. I also grew up watching music channels and singing along with my older cousin to everything R&B, listening to artists like Ne-Yo, Usher, Alicia Keys, Keri Hilson.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Rihanna! I'd loved to know how to have a fabulous music career and a successful fashion, makeup/skincare brand from the queen herself.
Of all the venues you’ve been to, which is your favourite?
I would say Gorilla in Manchester, I really love the vibe there and I have seen some of my favourite artists there like Jordan Rakei and Jorja Smith.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Nai Palm. I just think she has a very unique way of writing and her voice is insane, she is definitely an inspiration of mine!
Akemi Fox will release her debut EP 'Colour You In' on 11th December 2020. Listen, purchase or stream it via linktr.ee/akemifox.
The first track you played on repeat?
'Me, Myself and I' by Beyonce. It was the first CD I ever had and I was obsessed and still very much am.
A song that defines the teenage you?
'Latch' by Disclosure ft. Sam Smith. It reminds me of so many care-free, fun nights with my best friends and my first ever festival.
One record you would keep forever?
'Crack Rock' by Frank Ocean. One of my most favourite albums.
A song lyric that has inspired you?
"But I learned to love myself unconditionally because I am a queen"
From 'Video' by India.Arie. The ultimate feel-good, positive song for young women.
A song you wished you had written?
'On & On' by Erykah Badu.
Best song to turn up loud?
'WAP' by Cardi B & Meghan the Stallion. At the moment, it has to be the ultimate bad b**** song!
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'505' by Arctic Monkeys.
The song to get you straight on the dance floor?
'Bruk Off Yuh Back' by Konshens. Me and my cousin's race to the dance floor when this song comes on, full of funny, good memories.
Best song to end an all-nighter?
'Sit Back' by IAMDDB. I am all for a chill vibe when it's super late so I would pop on 'Sit Back' by Manchester queen IAMDDB.
Any new bands you are into at the moment?
I love Children of Zeus, there is so much good music at home in Manchester that everyone needs to know.
