Name, where are you from?
Heyaaaa I go by the name of BXKS and I’m from Luton the land of the hustlers.
Describe your style in three words?
Low budget, lazy and cosy lol.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
I would say J. Cole’s concert and when he performed 'Love Yourz'. I used to have a summer job in the O2 arena and I would see a lot of decent gigs for free by stewarding. The atmosphere when he performed that song was so surreal.
If you could be on the line up with any two artists in history?
Frank Ocean and I would want him to perform 'Seigfried' so I can cry in the audience loool. And the second person would have to be Kaytranada. I absolutely love him so he would have to play every single song he’s ever made, like ever.
Which subcultures have influenced you?
I would say my own culture. Growing up with my Jamaican roots but also being born in Britain has allowed me to appreciate both cultures musically as well as outside of music. I am black in Britain and so I experience what it’s like to be a black woman in Britain every day.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
I would love to sit down with Bob Marley and drink some peppermint tea with him! The song I would nominate would be 'Waiting in Vain'.
Of all the venues you’ve been to or played, which is your favourite?
Probably the O2. I haven’t played there but it's so big I would love to perform there one day. That would be a full-circle moment for me for real!
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
My personal greatest unsung heroine is Mariah Carey, she was one of the first women to interlink singing RnB love songs with gangster rappers as features and I find that really cool as she is the polar opposite to them. Anyone that knows me knows Mariah Carey has songs that I will sing my little heart out to. The Mariah Carey song nomination would be 'Heartbreaker' ft. Jay-Z.
The first track you played on repeat?
'Millionaire' by Kelis (ft. Andre 3000).
A song that defines the teenage you?
'Chillin' by Wale (ft. Lady Gaga).
One record you would keep forever?
'Let's Groove' by Earth, Wind & Fire.
A song lyric that has inspired you?
“It's not my fault them man have got a childish mentality
And they don't know how to make a tune for the mainstream, radio, roadman
And the stage show at the same time”
From 'Reflecting' by Skepta.
The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
'My Money (Ha Ha)' by Merital Family.
A song you wished you had written?
'Big Pimpin' by Jay-Z.
Best song to turn up loud?
'Ante Up' by M.O.P.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'Bang Bang Bang' by Mark Ronson.
Best song to end an all-nighter on?
Driving back home with a spliff sparked playing 'Wanna Get To Know You' by G-Unit.
Any new music you are listening to right now?
'Dumpling' by KAM-BU.
'I Want' by ENNY.
'Cheer Me Up' by Louis Culture.
'Audio Service' by Kish! Fantastic.
'Just A Sec' by BINA.
'Secondsin' by Jaydonclover.
'We Up' by Osquello.
'Started With A Text' by Bawo.
'Whisper Song' by RADA.
'Mediocre' by Kayowa.
'Breaking Point' by NAYANA IZ.
'What's It Like?' by Oscar #Worldpeace.
