Northern Soul DJ — Canada
A Cher Photo
Describe your style in three words?
Authentic, diverse, vintage.
The first track you played on repeat?
Rita & The Tiaras - Gone With the Wind Is My Love
Not the first but definitely the first Northern Soul song I played on Spotify repeat. What a gorgeous gorgeous tune. And was even lucky enough to dance to a Weekender which is no easy feat this side of the pond.
A song from your favorite album?
Sly & The Family Stone - Underdog
The entire album is a classic but this song definitely speaks to me the most. The lyrics are soooooo good. It’s become my pump-up song.
A song from your most memorable gig?
The Vaccines - Wreckin' Bar (Ra Ra Ra)
Lots of memorable gigs but this was definitely a fun one. The Vaccines very first visit to Toronto playing the Mod Club Theatre. Love this very short but sweet tune!
A song that always gets you up and dancing?
Edwin Starr - Time
Anything by Edwin but especially 'TIME'! Anytime I hear it played out it completely re-energizes me and I’m up on my feet sweating buckets. From the first tick tock. It’s infectious.
A new song you're listening to?
Durand Jones & The Indications - Witchoo
A catchy new release from 2021 I’ve recently added to my DJ box. It’s about going out, the excitement of it, letting your hair down, meeting new people. Great song and album.
Best song to turn up loud?
Larry Williams & Johnny Watson - Too Late
This one without a doubt has to be played loud! KEEP ON KEEPIN ON! And throw in a few backdrops!
A song that defines the teenage you?
The Breeders - Cannonball
Angsty and moody about sums it up. My tastes have definitely evolved since then but this one still gets played every now and then.
An anthemic song?
Candi Staton - Young Hearts Run Free
This one is all about enjoying your youth and not getting hung up by loves complications. Love singing along at a night out.
Best song to end an all-nighter?
Carla Thomas - I'll Never Stop Loving You
It’s a passionate soul song about the intense love and connection shared between two people. Goosebumps every time.
