A Dan Lyons Photo
Name, where are you from?
Dan Lyons, I’m from Kent.
Describe your style in three words?
Cats in Crisis.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
I saw Goat at WOMAD with Freya last year and they were brilliant.
If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers and The Beatles. I’d like to see whether George Harrison and Tom would still form the Wilbury’s whilst The Beatles were together. Maybe in a parallel universe that’s the reason for the break-up…
Which subcultures have influenced you?
Punk was a big one and New Wave. I listened to a lot of '90s Hip-Hop when I was younger too.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Sigmund Freud. I’d really like to talk to him about my dreams. I get sleep paralysis all the time - and these lucid, feature-length nightmares at least three times a week. I’d like to know if he had any secret tips for calming them down a bit.
Of all the venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
The Tom Thumb Theatre in Margate. It’s amazing. It’s the smallest theatre in Europe, and the sound is brilliant. It’s all red, with gilded wallpaper and a lovely piano in the corner. It’s like something from a David Lynch film.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Grant McLennan from The Go-Betweens. They’re one of my all time favourite bands, and they made countless brilliant albums but never quite got their day in the sun.
Dan Lyons is set to release his new EP 'Special People' on 10th May 2019. Find out more here.
The first track you played on repeat?
'Rock DJ' by Robbie Williams.
A song that defines the teenage you?
'Hotel Yorba' by The White Stripes.
One record you would keep forever?
'Transformer' by Lou Reed.
A song lyric that has inspired you?
“Your day breaks, your mind aches
You find that all her words of kindness linger on
When she no longer needs you
She wakes up, she makes up
She takes her time and doesn't feel she has to hurry
She no longer needs you”
'For No One' by The Beatles.
A song you wished you had written?
'I’m In Love With A German Film Star' by The Passions.
Best song to turn up loud?
'Babe, I’m Gonna Leave You' by Led Zeppelin.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'Rap Snitch Knishes' by MF Doom.
Best song to end an all-nighter?
'Ou Va La Monde' by La Femme.
Any new bands you're are into at the moment?
Human Interest, Yassassin, Honey Hahs, Honkies, Murman Tsuladze and Sorry.
