Hair Artist — Madrid
A Elias Pedrosa Photo
Name, where are you from?
Elias Pedrosa, Madrid.
What do you do?
Hair Artist.
Describe your style in three words?
Sport, workwear, cool.
What's the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Chassol, Six Pianos. It was quite an experience to get to a concert where the audience sits on rugs on the floor. I found it amazing to see a single person playing 6 pianos at the same time, and synchronizing them with the sounds of projected images in the background. Highly recommended.
If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
The Blaze and Koffee. The way that Blaze moves me and makes me enjoy each sound, it transports me to the history of each song. From Koffee, I love her aesthetic and also the way she gives me good vibes and makes me dance.
Which subcultures have influenced you?
Bakalas, R&B, techno. I like to take some things from the aesthetics of these subcultures to fit my style. From the Bakalas I choose the bleached denims, the Fred Perry polo shirts, the shaved haircuts, the straight pants and the Nike TN. I grew up with R&B, Aaliyah, Destiny's Child, Jason Derulo, Drake… And my music to party is techno.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
I would say Grace Jones and would spend it at Studio 54. Why? Who wouldn’t?
Of all the independent venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
My favourite without any doubt would be Sala Pirandello in Madrid. I started djing there when I was 21 and it's where I have the best memories.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Nina Simone, I think she is a music heroine. Her social input was incredible and her fight against racism and women’s rights has helped a generation of women and racialized persons.
The first track you played on repeat?
'My oh My' by Aqua.
A song that defines the teenage you?
'Don't Stop The Music' by Rihanna.
One record you would keep forever?
'Dangerously in Love' by Beyonce.
A song lyric that has inspired you?
'Frio' by Omar Apollo.
A song you wished you had written?
'Diamonds' by Rihanna.
Best song to turn up loud?
'Toast' by Koffee.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'Habibi' by La Cebolla.
The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
'Won’t Be Late' by Swae Lee (feat. Drake).
Best song to end an all-nighter?
'Ritmo De La Noche' by Mistic.
Any new bands you are into at the moment?
Priya Ragu.
