Name, where are you from?
Nick Corbin from East London via East Sussex.
What do you do?
I’m a singer and songwriter.
Describe your style in three words?
Casual Ivy Influence.
What has been your all-time favourite gig?
That I’ve been to: The Specials at The Roundhouse a few years back. My favourite gig I’ve played is opening for Mavis Staples at Union Chapel two years ago!
What are your social media handles?
Instagram: @nickcorbinmusic
Facebook: @nickcorbinnsa
Twitter: @NickCorbinMusic
What was the first song you played on repeat?
'She’s Electric' by Oasis. '(What's The Story) Morning Glory' was the first album I chose to buy after seeing Oasis play 'Wonderwall' on TOTP! I loved 'She’s Electric' because of the lyrics and even now I still think they’re genius!
Which music defines the teenage you?
It depends on which stage of the teens we’re talking about... I went from thinking I liked Incubus to thinking I liked R&B, mainly due to who I was hanging around with but then in my late teens I discovered Curtis Mayfield and he gave me a greater understanding of music than anyone else had up to that point!
A song from your favourite album?
My favourite album changes regularly. Right now it’s 'Main Street People' by The Four Tops and I’d choose 'Are You Man Enough?' as my favourite song from it!
A song you wish you’d written?
'She’s Gone' by Hall & Oates. A British icon or band who inspire your sound? Right now it’s Michael Kiwanuka - his individuality and clever use of his influences makes him one of our generation’s most important artists in my opinion.
What is the last piece of music you bought?
'Life Worth Living', the new album from The Spitfires!
Best song to bring people together?
'Ain’t No Mountain High Enough' by Marvin & Tammi.
The best love song of all time?
'Make It With You' by Bread.
Is there a song you like that people wouldn’t expect?
'Enter Sandman' by Metallica.
What new music are you listening to?
Lots of great bands are releasing music right now, which is really exciting. I’m loving the new albums by The Spitfires, The Milk and Smoove & Turrell and also listening to some great new artists; Hannah Elkins and Abi Farrell are very exciting and I’ve also recently got into Toro Y Moi, his version of Joe Bataan’s 'Ordinary Guy' is superb!
