Describe your style in three words?
Sacrilegious tomboy grandma
The first track you played on repeat? And where did you play it?
Big Brother & The Holding Company - Ball and Chain
This is actually the last (or most recent) track I've been playing on repeat, because there's no way I can remember what the first one would have been. I'm currently playing it very loudly in my headphones at all times.
A song from your favourite album? And what does this track mean to you?
The Stranglers - Peaches - 1996 Remaster
The first time I went to my boyfriends house he had this on vinyl and it was the very first album he put on without knowing it was my favourite. That was quite impressive, and lucky. They are one of my all time favourite bands. This is the track that got me addicted to them.
A song from your most memorable gig?
Fat White Family - Auto Neutron
Before going to one of their gigs I didn't really rate their music. I still went to see them when I was at End of the Road in 2015, they opened with this song and are the only band that have changed my mind within seconds of seeing them live.
A song that always gets you up and dancing?
April March - Chick Habit
This song is seriously catchy. It's cheery, the lyrics are straightforward but there's something sinister too. A nice contrast. It's a bop and also threatening men who are serial cheaters. I can dance to that.
A new song you're listening to? Why do you like this artist?
FONTAINES D.C. - Too Real
I love the opening line "None can pull the passion loose from youth's ungrateful hands". I think every song they have released so far is brilliant, really looking forward to the album.
Best song to turn up loud? And why?
Nina Simone - Sinnerman - Live In New York/1965
'Sinnerman' is African American spiritual song about a sinner trying to run and hide from judgement day but finding it impossible to escape, I guess because you carry your sins with you. The instrumental part where there's only clapping and piano is so powerful.
A song that defines the teenage you? And the memories it evokes?
Broken Social Scene - Anthems For A Seventeen Year-Old Girl
This song makes me think of being exactly 17 years old and listening to this song, trying to figure it all out, how painful and also powerful it is being a teenage girl.
An anthemic song? Why does it get your pulse racing?
Hotel Lux - English Disease
These guys are my best friends. I remember watching them trying to write a song with a chorus and Lewis coming up with "We're all at the bar drinking Stella Artois, referencing Satre and Danny Dyer" which is deserving the title of 'anthemic' just for that line alone tbh.
Best song to end an all-nighter?
Love - Alone Again Or - 2015 Remastered Version
At the end of a night you're either getting a train or in bed alone after being surrounded by friends. The contrast happens so fast and is painfully lonely. You replay the night over in your head and hold onto feeling loved. This song represents that bitter sweet feeling for me.
