Singer/Drummer — Manchester
A Spring King Photo
What is your name? Where are you from?
Tarek from Spring King, which is me, Pete, James and Andy. We’re from Manchester and its surrounding suburbs.
What do you do?
We play loud, up-tempo garage pop. Somewhere between The Clash and The Beach Boys
Describe your style in three words?
Organised musical chaos.
How should your music be listened to?
Loud.
What do you miss about home when you’re on tour?
Seeing my parents and walking in the park.
What British music icons inspire your sound today?
The Zombies, PJ Harvey, T-Rex, The Clash, The Who.
What was the first song you played on repeat?
‘Girl Don’t Tell Me’ by The Beach Boys
Always on repeat in the summer of 2012. This track got me hooked on Brian Wilson's songwriting.
A song from your favourite album?
Arcade Fire - Rococo
Such a great song! Huge drum sound and lush strings.
Song you wish you had written / Music icon that has inspired you?
PJ Harvey - The Words That Maketh Murder
I love the surf feel of this song that comes from the drums and guitars. The melodies are incredible.
Five songs from bands you rate on the Dot to Dot line up?
Someone Purer - Mystery Jets
This song has been a favourite of mine for years. Great capture of the recording too.
White Water - Eera
Very talented songwriter, definitely one to watch.
Friday Sky - Babeheaven
I love how laid back it is, reminds me of Sean Nicholas Savage a little.
Horsey & You - Bruja
They’ve got an EP out, have a listen to it!
Woke In The Night, The Phone Was Ringing - Palace Winter
Love this song, driving at night to this…
