A The Begbies Photo
What is your name? Where are you from?
Liam from The Begbies. We also have Gary, Scott, Callum, Kieran, Sally and Stephaine. We are from Livingston, Scotland.
What do you do?
We play ska inspired indie tracks or as we like to say "skindie".
Describe your style in three words?
Original. Raw. Skanking.
How should your music be listened to?
Loud, beer in hand, getting your skank on.
What do you miss about home when you’re on tour?
"Garlic Sauce" - Scott Wilson.
What British music icons inspire your sound today?
Terry Hall, Joe Strummer, John Lydon, Wilko Johnson, Ian Dury.
What was the first song you played on repeat?
'Bodies' - The Sex Pistols.
That record changed my life. The sheer venom in Johnny Rottens voice, the rawness of the guitar riff and the drums, are just incredible. I hadn't heard anything like it in my life.
A song from your favourite album?
'Death on the Stairs' from Up the Bracket by The Libertines.
Just a beautiful track that contains everything you could ever love about a record. It still tops my "most popular" tracks on my iPod.
Song you wish you had written / Music icon that has inspired you?
'Too Much Too Young' by The Specials.
That whole period 1976 to 1981, punks/skinheads/rude boys etc was just a glory time for challenging social/economical problems. Remember this was a time where "sweeping it under the carpet" was still considered "The British way". Terry Hall, Johnny Rotten, Joe Strummer all took the fight too them with their lyrics. That is something sadly missing from main stream pop culture these days. It's all plastic stars with plastic faces, singing about their own plastic lives.
Roxette - Dr Feelgood
The guitar tone, that is all.
Israelites - Desmond Dekker
A song as relevant today as it was in 1968. Working your life away for not enough money to eat.
Enjoy Yourself - Prince Buster
A rocksteady anthem.
Bankrobber - The Clash
It's The Clash and it's a belter.
The Skinhead Symphony - The Specials
You can't not skank to this.
