A The Family Rain Photo
Name, where are you from?
Will Walter, Bath.
What do you do?
Lead Singer - Bassist.
Describe your style in three words?
Rock ‘And’ Roll.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
The Rolling Stones - BST Hyde Park. We were lucky enough to play on the same bill as The Stones at Hyde Park. They were, without doubt, the best live band I have ever seen. Having been a mega fan since childhood this could’ve gone either way, they came out with more energy than a bunch of teenagers and tore through every song you would wanna hear. Charlie Watts laying down the intro to 'Can't You Hear Me Knocking?' across the London sunset is a moment I will never forget.
If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
The Beatles and AC/DC. The Beatles to us are beyond human, to see them play side of stage would be to die. AC/DC were the band that got us into rock music, I don’t think any hard rock band could really outplay AC/DC back in the day. They are just a bunch of strange people who give everything they’ve got for the music, you can see the want for the audience to have a great time in every performance they do.
Which subcultures have influenced you?
Mods, Rockers, Punks, Goths, Elvis Tribute Acts, basically any group of people who have got together because they feel like society has pushed them away and decide to rebel through art and look damn good while doing it.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Steve Coogan - I would just get him to do Alan Partridge for an hour... I bet he would love that.
Of all the independent venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
We have got a soft spot for the Thekla in Bristol. It’s a great one for mid-size touring bands. It looks as cool on the outside as on the inside and for the band and audience, it’s just a good experience. The UK needs more venues that size that have balconies, it makes you feel like the show is immediately more of a big deal if you have a balcony… it’s all about the balcony.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Our producer and long time companion Tom Dalgety. He is without a doubt the hardest working man we know in music and a constant inspiration. Producers rarely get a shoutout, with Tom you can get a sense that every band he works with he puts everything into the project and invests in the band to get the very best out of them. He is a huge part of our sound and is now one of the biggest rock producers on the planet. I’m gonna nominate the latest Pixies track he produced - it’s a banger.
The first track you played on repeat?
'Blitzkrieg Bop' by The Ramones.
A song that defines the teenage you?
'Someday' by The Strokes.
One record you would keep forever?
'Imagine' by John Lennon.
A song lyric that has inspired you?
"God only knows what I’d be without you"
From 'God Only Knows' The Beach Boys.
A song you wished you had written?
'Five Years' by David Bowie.
Best song to turn up loud?
'Some Might Say' by Oasis.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'No Regrets' by Robbie Williams.
The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
'Like A Prayer' by Madonna.
Best song to end an all-nighter?
'Movin' On Up' by Primal Scream.
Any new bands you are into at the moment?
'Jeff Goldblum' by Mattiel.
