A Emma McGrath Photo
Name, where are you from?
Emma McGrath and I’m from Hertfordshire which is just north of London.
Describe your style in three words?
Smart but casual.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Probably The Summer Set at O2 Academy Islington because I think it was one of the first proper gigs I went to and it was brilliant. I remember both Alfie (my drummer) and I stood in the crowd saying how awesome it would be there to play there one day and now I have!
If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
Tracy Chapman because I think she is amazing and I could listen to her music forever and Fleetwood Mac because it’s Fleetwood Mac.
Which subcultures have influenced you?
I think I’d have to say Alternative R&B because I just love the sounds and, especially with artists like Banks, the lyrics. It’s one of those genres that I can listen to whatever mood I’m in and it’s always satisfying. When I first got into it I wrote quite a few tracks in that style and I’d like to think I learnt quite a bit from it!
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Michael Jackson.
Of all the venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
The 100 Club in London was pretty cool just because it’s iconic.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
I would probably say Missy Higgins, because I genuinely think her music is timeless and I know she is big in Australia but not enough people know who she is in the UK!
London-based artist Emma McGrath's six-track EP 'Silent Minds' is set for release on 13 April (2018). Emma McGrath's new single 'Butterfly' is out now.
