Lloyd Young. Originally from '14th worst town in the UK' - Basingstoke, but London based since 2008!

Describe your style in three words?
Worn out tat.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever put on?
Hard to pick but I'd probably have to say it's a tie between Fat White Family in 2013 and SQUID late last year. Both for much the same reason, in that they were both at hugely exciting periods of time for each band. Fat White Family were right on the cusp of their success and I think SQUID are no different. Also, Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard get a special mention for a ridiculously good headline show for me at The Old Blue Last recently!

If you could put on a line up with any two bands in history?
Might seem like a cliche of a choice but I don't really care... Nirvana are my all time favourite band and I wish I was a bit older when they were at their peak. The influence that they had, and still have, both musically and culturally is immeasurable. I wouldn't be doing anything I'm doing now if Nirvana hadn't existed.
I'd flip-flop a lot on a second choice but for now, I'll say Chet Baker. Despite a pretty much endless list of personal issues he still managed to leave a huge mark on Jazz (and music in general)! Plus I'd love to start booking a bit of Jazz as well!

Which subcultures have influenced you?
70's Punk, and the DIY ethos that it birthed.

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Billie Holiday! Quite simply the coolest person of all time, and such an important pioneer in so many ways. A genuine free spirit who endured such extreme hardship from so early on in her life, yet still managed to push through and flourish in the ultimate 'mans world' of that era. And above all, she was simply a stunning talent.

What's you're favourite independent venue?
Probably Scala, Kings Cross, London. Seeing a band there always feels particularly special. Like you're witnessing something right before it explodes.

Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Townes Van Zandt. Not necessarily unsung but still never achieved the success he deserved in his own lifetime. Plus one of the most powerful lyricists you'll ever hear.
