A Pett Level Photo
Name, where are you from?
Max from Pett Level, we’re from Tunbridge Wells but now live in South East London.
What do you do?
I’m the vocalist.
Describe your style in three words?
Alternative/Pop/Psychedelic.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
We went to the Rolling Stones gig at Hyde Park in 2013. It was about 30°C and once the sun started going down it turned into the perfect summer's evening. I think the standout song was 'Miss You'. The bassline sounded huge! Also amazing to see them live for the first time and still sound so good.
If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
Daft Punk and New Order please? Both have been pivotal in the creation of Pett Level.
Of all the independent venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
It has to be our hometown venue - The Forum (in Tunbridge Wells). We played some of our first shows there and have seen some great artists play over the years including Palma Violets and Foals.
The first track you played on repeat?
'One by One' by Foo Fighters. The whole album. I think it was the first album we bought (Woolworths). We used to listen to it on CD in our front room, the good old days.
A song that defines the teenage you?
'Acceptable in The 80s' by Calvin Harris. I was a big Calvin Harris fan during secondary school and he was one of the first artists that made me get into bedroom producing.
One record you would keep forever?
'Plastic Beach' by Gorillaz. The whole album is great, start to finish. The stand out has to be 'Some Kind of Nature' with Lou Reed. I actually listened to it again recently after having not heard it for a little while.
A song you wished you had written?
'Electric Feel' by MGMT.
Best song to turn up loud?
'Robbery' by 50 Cent.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'Malibu' by Miley Cyrus.
The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
'Reptilia' by The Strokes.
Best song to end an all-nighter?
'The End' by The Beatles.
Any new bands you are into at the moment?
Yeah, loads! A few that we’re currently playing are Djo, Blackaby, Los Shadows and Hector Gachan.
