Psykhi, I'm Ashanti, a tribe from south central Ghana, based in London.

Describe your style in three words?
Slack, swag, dark.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Childish Gambino's 'This is America' at the O2. It was the last day of his tour and my classmate had an extra ticket. It was crazy, especially for me; it was my first proper live show, I had been dying to go to a concert for almost a decade.

If you could be on the line up with any two artists in history?
Sonic Youth opening before me would have been beautiful. I love the tone of their noisy fork-jammed guitars. I would also need The Stooges there with me. I would be psyched out with Iggy Pop, searching and destroying.

Which subcultures have influenced you?
Punk, post-punk, goth, '90s grunge and indie rock taught me to be authentic to myself. Listening to Siouxsie and the Banshees taught me everything I needed to know, taking me on a cultural journey far deeper and wider than any school curriculum.

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Joey Ramone. His story, unique vocal style, battles with OCD and schizophrenia really speak to me. He's a big inspiration. Go listen to 'Sheena Is A Punk Rocker' by the Ramones.

Of all the venues you’ve been to or played, which is your favourite?
So far I’ve only performed at underground shows in London, they tend not to be in very traditional “venues”. Some friends of mine run a night called Lamesfest - I had a sick time performing at something they did in Kentish Town a while back.

Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
My mother.
