Name, where are you from?
ROCH, I'm from London, currently living South East London.
Describe your style in three words?
Proto industrial goth / brutalist but cuddly /... I'm a Libra.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
I saw Faust play in East London, they played a cement mixer and an angle grinder on stage. Second place would go to Kylie's Showgirl Tour at Earls Court in 2005 I still have the merchandise from when I went aged 10.
If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
PJ Harvey and Goldfrapp - they are mesmerising live! They seem cool to hang out with too...
Which Subcultures have influenced you?
Every single one! I'm a sponge.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Pedro Almodóvar, because of his films and the women in them.
Of all the venues you’ve been to, which is your favourite?
I once played in a temporary structure made of plywood and stained glass in a warehouse in Antwerp, it was so beautifully designed.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Females making music in the brit punk scene in the '70s... For breaking boundaries and stereotypes of women in music. And females making music now... There's still a fierce battle to be fought for representation on festival line ups, radio and financial backing. Oh and Little Simz... She deserves the same attention as her male counterparts.
Roch (AKA Kate Miller) honed her creativity studying performance and sculpture at London's Central Saint Martin's College. Juxtaposing varied themes with otherworldly electronics, reverb filtered drums, guitars and her chilling vocals, Roch's debut album 'Via Media' will be released in March 2020. Grace Slick's voice is haunting!
A song that defines the teenage you?
I began playing guitar when I was 9 and by my teens I was interested in playing different types of guitar genres, I listened to my fair share of emo, prog and punk but then I took an interest in Flamenco guitar and went to my first flamenco concert - I was fascinated by the whole performance and the energy of the performers. It's hard to find many female flamenco guitarists on streaming platforms but Paco Peña was a big inspiration.
One record you would keep forever?
'Music to Watch Girls by - The Classics' it reminds me of my childhood, long car journeys with my family and driving through Europe
A song lyric that has inspired you?
"I dare you to understand
What makes me a woman"
'Woman' by Angel Olsen, I listened to this on repeat about the same time I wrote my song 'All Time Favourite Girl'.
A song you wished you had written?
Bjork - 'Venus as a Boy'
Best song to turn up loud?
Air - 'Sexy Boy'
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
Burna Boy - 'On The Low'
The song to get you straight on the dance floor?
Aaj Shanibar - 'Rupa'
