Name, where are you from?
My name is Simon and I just moved to Leipzig, Germany.
Describe your style in three words?
Tight hang loose.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
I saw Badbadnotgood in 2018 at Melt Festival and that show really blew me away. I bought a one-day-ticket just to see their show and it was magical. It might have been the first jazz gig I ever attended and it took me to somewhere else. Just close your eyes or keep em wide open at these freakin' musicians.
If you could be on the line up with any two artists in history?
I’d go for Lou Reed and Courtney Barnett just to sing one song with them together. You'd lie if you don’t think these voices would sound amazing together.
Which subcultures have influenced you?
I went through a wild change of styles in my teens but the main influences always have been mod and Britpop culture and my love for skateboarding. What I always liked about guys like Liam Gallagher or Ian Brown is to combine classy mod looks with baggy jeans or trainers.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Predictable answer but I go for John Lennon. I absorbed everything he did throughout my childhood so there should be some questions to ask him!
Of all the venues you've been to or played, which is your favourite?
I'm not quite sure about that cause there has never been a certain venue where we were like a residence band or something but last week we played at Molotow in Hamburg for the second time and I had a very splendid stay there!
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Me man, check out my tunes!
The first track you played on repeat?
'Dandy' by The Kinks. I have no clue where it came from, but somebody put it on my mp3-player when I was 11 I think, and this goofy little song really stuck with me.
A song that defines the teenage you?
'Young Love' by Mystery Jets (ft. Laura Marling). I grew up in a very small village in the eastern part of Germany. The funny thing is that there were two bands in that village and all of us were die-hard indie kids. That song rang in the morning after my first really crazy party when I was hungover as hell. Guess I was 14 or 15, kept it in my mind forever.
One record you would keep forever?
'Somersault' by Beach Fossils. That album is a young classic to me. It’s amazing how many influences they've put together on this record. It really motivated me to write my own stuff.
A song lyric that has inspired you?
"Mona Lisa must have had the Highway Blues you can tell by the way she smiles"
From 'Visions of Johanna' by Bob Dylan.
The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
'Meet Me Half Way' by Black Eyed Peas.
A song you wished you had written?
I’d probably go for one from Alex Turner's 'Submarine' EP. In my opinion, these five songs are his best work. This EP has accompanied me since I was fourteen years old and I still love it to death! I'd pick 'Glass in the Park'.
Best song to turn up loud?
'I Think' by Tyler, The Creator.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'Don't Come Out The House' by Metro Boomin, 21 Savage.
Best song to end an all-nighter on?
'My Way' by Frank Sinatra.
Any new music you are listening to right now?
There's a lot of cool bands and projects my friends are involved in. To name a few I go for Power Plush, Paisley, Goldbrasse and Èvin, check them out!
