Name, where are you from?
Josh, Leeds.
Describe your style in three words?
My girlfriend's leggings.
What’s the best gig you've ever been to?
Leonard Cohen, London, 2012.
If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
Throwing Muses and ESG.
Which subcultures have influenced you?
Just a bunch of absolutely dyed-in-the-wool Normcore's over here.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Probably someone really really horrible like John Wayne Gacy. Musician-wise though, maybe David Byrne? Bit of a tonal lurch, there.
Of all the venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
The Brudenell Social Club in Leeds genuinely cannot be matched for sheer triumphant vibes. I don’t think we’ve ever played a show there that hasn’t been absolutely balls to the wall excellent.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Let’s go with Yellow Magic Orchestra who, for those not in the know, were basically Japan’s answer to Kraftwerk only about 300 times better and goofier. They even had better album covers if you can believe it (believe it). A must for any upbeat major key fist-pumping party soundtrack.
Leeds-based six-piece, Team Picture released their debut mini-album ‘Recital’ in June 2018 via Big Dumb Music. You can stream it in full below.
The first track you played on repeat?
I knew all of the words to ‘Poison’ by Alice Cooper by the time I was 4 years old. Thanks, Dad.
A song that defines the teenage you?
There were a lot of tragic evenings spent listening to ‘I Know It’s Over’ by The Smiths and sighing loudly.
One record you would keep forever?
I will probably be buried with my copy of ‘Hounds of Love’ by Kate Bush.
A song lyric that has inspired you?
"Take your handicaps,
Channel them and feed them back,
Until they become your strengths"
From ‘All The Same’ by Deerhunter. Bradford Cox, swoon, amirite?
A song you wished you had written?
‘You Saved My Life’ by Cass McCombs.
Best song to turn up loud?
‘Two Oceans’ by Weaves.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
‘Doves In The Wind’ by SZA. Although I can’t listen to it with anyone else in the room ‘cause I start blushing.
Best song to end an all-nighter on?
‘Save the Best for Last’ by Vanessa Williams (more than just a song about gravy).
Any new bands you are listening to right now?
Local shout-out: ‘Shrapnel’ by Kumiko.
