Name, where are you from?
I'm Trackie, from sunny Glasgow, Scotland.
What do you do?
Artist, Cultural Commentator, Bullshitter.
Describe your style in three words?
Gay, Gallus, Geezer.
Which subcultures have influenced you?
The ease of Rave culture, the razor-sharp fit of the Teddy Boys and the confidence of the Casuals.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music and why?
Tough question, but I'd probably say Sade? Unsure if she qualifies as unsung but I don't think she gets enough recognition in British music history. Her live performance of 'Sweetest Taboo' on The Tonight Show (1985) is still the coolest/sexiest thing I've ever seen.
Which is your favourite independent venue and why?
Surely the best independent venues are always the illegal ones? We used to go an afters called The Unit in Glasgow around 2011-13 which was basically a sweaty room under a railway bridge. If it wasn't shut down by the police, Glasgow's waifs and strays gathered out their tights to dance to whatever noise was in at the time. Total dive, but it wasn't short on character. Remember hearing 'NY Is Killing Me' by Gil Scott-Heron and Jamie XX for the first time in there and me and my jaw thinking: this is what it's all about lads.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
A bit left field but I'm a sucker for a strong female vocalist so probably Adele, who I seen in Glasgow in 2016 with my mammy. She blew the roof off it, not to mention shes also comedy gold so it wasn't all tears. Shout out for her track 'Hometown Glory' which holds a special place in my heart, propper nostalgic.
The first track you played on repeat?
'Roses' by Outkast. Made a point of going into Woolworths with my pocket money to buy the single when it came out and got knocked back because I was like 11. Bless my wee mum who went in and got me it anyway despite the 'sweary words'. I remember even went to the lengths of writing out the lyric booklet in my school jotter. Reckon I could still smash every word (even the 'sweary' ones).
A song that defines the teenage you?
'Born Slippy' by Underworld. The 8 minute version though, I had a lot of time on my hands.
The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
'Everybody Wants to Rule the World' by Tears For Fears.
A song you wished you had written?
It's a toss-up between 'Angel Eyes' by Wet Wet Wet and 'The Power Of Love' by Frankie Goes To Hollywood. Both beautiful tunes in their own right.
Best track to get ready for a night out?
'Touch Me In The Morning' by Rui Da Silva.
What's the best song you've discovered on a night out?
'A Girl Like You' by Edwyn Collins.
